To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, \VINFIELD S. CRUM and PETER W. CRUM, citizens of the United States, residing at Wilkinson, in the county of Hancock and State of Indiana, have invented "certain new and .useful Improvements in Fluid-Bath Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to cabinets for administering hot air, steam and medicated steam and air baths to people.

The object of the invention is to provlde a cabinet large enough to entirely envelop one entire person, preferably seated, but divided by a horizontal partition into an upper compartment for the head and a lower one for the remainder of the body whereby different temperatures and kinds or mixtures of bath fluids may be used if desired.

The object also is to afford easy access to the occupants face and head for massage and shampoo purposes, and to provide a suitable table upon which long hair may be spread for drying, before the person emerges after such treatments.

A further object is to provide thorough control of the admission of the bath-fluids to the different compartments of the cabinet and to direct the flow to the best advantage against the occupant after admission.

e accomplish the above, and other objects which will hereinafter appear, by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective view of our invention as viewed from the front. Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section showing the partition in plan view which separates the cabinet into upper and lower compartments. Fig. 4: is a vertical section of the upper part of the cabinet on the line 4 1 of Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 is a section of a supply pipe showing the underside view of one of the mixers through which regulated quantities of air are admitted to the pipes.

Like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

The lower and major portion of the cabinet, which contains the lower compartment, is preferably in the shape of a four-sided box, also, preferably, having a horizontal bottom 7, and a top, the front portion 8, of

which is oblique to deflect the fluid currents rearwardly and downwardly against the patient, and the remaining rear portion 9, of which is horizontal. The part 9 forms the floor for the upper compartment of the cabinet which receives the head of the occupant and is provided with an opening 10 through which the occupants neck passes. The opening 10 is in the form of a slot eX- tending from the front edge of the floor 9 to enable the user to push back into it when the cabinet is opened up in front, thereby making the use of a smaller opening practicable than if the head had to pass through, and securing a closer fit and consequent greater separation between the upper and lower compartments.

The upper compartment has a rear extension 11, making the compartment T-shape as a whole, the bottom of which is an extension of the'floor 9. A top 12, of the same shape as the floor 9, forms the closure in that direction, and the closure is made complete by vertical walls as shown. Suitable arm-holes, closed by swinging doors 13, are provided at each end and rear to the top compartment for the insertion of the operators hand and arm in reaching the head of the occupant in administering shampoo and massage to the latter, and the floor 9 affords a suitable supporting surface upon which the hair may be spread to dry.

The front wall 14, is open opposite the slot 10, for the entrance of the person to be treated and for the projection of the face of the latter. This opening is partially closed after such entrance by a vizor 15, comprising oppositely oblique upper and lower forwardly projecting members, partially closed at the ends by wire cloth 16 to admit air for breathing. This vizor is hinged at its top to the top 12 of the cabinet, which allows it to be folded back upon the top 12 and out of the way when the party enters or leaves the cabinet. A door 18, hinged at one side as shown in Fig. 1, is provided in the oblique member 8, and the vertical front wall of the lower compartment has an opening which is closed by a sliding door 17 both of said doors being provided for the convenient entrance to and exit from the cabinet. The upper and lower members of the vizor 15 are made oblique in the manner shown, for the purpose of deflecting the fluid currents entering the top compartment at the rear of the patients face, back into his face in all directions as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4:.

The means which We have provided for supplying hot air, and both plain and medicated steam in regulated quantities, separately or simultaneously to the upper and lower compartments, is shown in Fig. 2, and comprises a hot-air pipe 19, conducting the air from any suitable source, not shown, and discharging it into. the extension 11 of the top compartment, and into the lower compartment through a branch pipe 20. A like pipe 21, taking steamfrom a source not shown, discharges into the extension 11, and has a branch 22, which'discharges into the lower compartment. The pipes 19 and 21, are provided with valves 23, between their branches and discharge ends, and the branches 20 and 22 are provided with like valves 23, for the control of the discharge. The medicated air and medicated steam difier from the plain by the addition of the medicinal agent at the source of supply, and the same pipes which carried the plain steam or air will carry the medicated. But, as it is sometimes desirable to supply plain steam to one compartment, as for example, the lower one, and medicated steam at the same time to the upper one, the same steam pipes could not carry the two varieties of fluid, and for that reason we provide an additional pipe 24, discharging only to the lower compartment, through which plain steam may be supplied to the lower com-' partment while medicated steam is going through pipe 21 into the upper compartment, the valve in the branch 22 being closed. Each of the pipes 19, 21 and 24, is provided with mixers 25, of usual form and preferably with adjustable damper-plates 26, by which a regulated supply of external air may be introduced into the respective pipes.

While we have described our invention with more or less detail as regards the construction and arrangements of the parts, we do not desire to be limited thereto unduly or any more than is pointed out in the claims, and

WVhat we do claim as new and wish to se cure by Letters Patent, is

1. A fluid-bath cabinet having a floor dividing it into upper and lower compartments, one side of said cabinet having openings which communicate with each other and Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the afford ingress and egress to the cabinet, said fioor being slotted next to said openings to receive an occupants neck whereby his head may be in the upper compartment while his body is in the lower one, and means comprising doors to close said openings, said doors having an oblique member opposite each compartment to deflect the bath-fluid toward the occupant.

2. A fluid-bath cabinet having a floor dividing it into upper and lower compartments, one side of said cabinet having oblique members opposite both compartments with openings which afi'ord ingress and egress to the cabinet, said floor being slotted from its edge in next to said openings to receive an occupants neck whereby his head may be in the upper compartment and his body in the lower one, means comprising doors to close said openings and means comprising pipes having valves and air mixers for supplying a bath-fluid to one or both of said compartments in regulated quantities.

3. A fluid-bath cabinet having a horizontal partition dividing it into a lower compartment to receive an occupants body and an upper compartment to receive his head, openings for ingress and egress to the cabinet, said partition being slotted for the passage of the occupants neck, and closures for said ingress and egress openings comprising a vizor for the upper compartment having outwardly bowed members.

4. A fluid-bath cabinet having a horizontal partition dividing it into a lower compartment to receive an occupants body and an upper compartment to receive his head, openings for ingress and egress to the cabinet, said partition being slotted for the passage of the occupants neck, and closures for said ingress and egress openings comprising a vizor for the upper compartment hinged at its top to the top of the cabinet and having outwardly bowed members with perforate ends.
