To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLOTTE HINCHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Forks, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Holding Means, of which the following is a specification,

My invention relates to door-holding means and pertains more particularly to means by which a spring door. may be held tightly closed.

The object of my invention is to produce a device for drawing and holding a springactuated door into closed position and to supplement the action, or pressure, of a spring for closing a door to prevent the door from remaining partly open.

A further object thereof's to produce a magnetic ball or head, adapted to be attached upon the door frame or j amb, and a socket carried upon the swinging edge of the door, composed of material that is responsive to the magnetic attraction in the member or part carried on the door jamb, by which the swinging door will be drawn into closedposition when it is swung within the radius of the oWer of the magnet.

Another obJect thereof is to produce a. door-closing device of the character described, having a mat of soft material adjacent to the magnet, adapted to soften the sound of closing the door; and a still further object of my invention is to produce a more simple, cheap and efiicient door-closing and holding device than has heretofore been attained.

To these ends, my invention includes the members or parts in closed position; Fig. 4

is a central sectional view of Fig. 1; Fig. 5 is a similar view of Fig. 2, and Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the two parts or members of my device.

My invention includes, generally, a metal plate 1, preferably of annular shape, adapted to be screwed upon the bracket attached to a door frame through the eyelets 2. Upon said late is carried a mat 3 of india rubber or li e material, against which the face of the plate 6, carried on the free edge of the door 7, will bear when the door is closed. Centrally carried on the plate 1 is provided a projecting head 4, which is formed of magnetized metal and is preferably hemispherical in shape. Mounted upon the free edge of the door 7 is carried a metal plate 6 in position to register when the door is closed with. the plate 1, before described; and centrally secured upon the plate 6 is carried a cup-shaped socket 8, formed of metal which is responsive to the magnetic attraction in the head 4 on the door frame and thus comprises an armature for said magnet.

From the foregoing description and by reference to the accompanying drawings, it will be appreciated that the member carried upon the immovable part of the door frame will attract and hold against ordinary pres sure the free end of the door, and thus hold the same in fixed closed position and take up any slack that may exist in the door-closing spring, and it will be further appreciated that the mat 3 of india rubber, or like material, will prevent the unpleasant sounds caused by closing the door.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to be secured by Letters Patent, is-

The combination with a door and door frame, of a metal plate carried on the frame, a convex magnetized head carried on said plate and projecting therefrom at substantially right angles to the plane thereof, an annular silencing mat carried on said plate surrounding said head, an armature carried on the free edge of the door having a concave socket therein adapted to coiiperate with said magnet to draw and hold the door in closed position and receive said head therein, substantially as described.
