To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB OLREE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawer- Stops; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a drawer stop and it is the primary object and purpose thereof to form a drawer stop which may be so connected with a drawer that it is practically impossible to remove it or loosen it short of destruction of the drawer.
A further object of the invention is to construct a drawer stop which can be quickly and easily made at a very low cost of manufacture, said stops being struck from sheet metal and necessitating but few operations of dies for the production thereof.
Various other features of novelty and utility will also appear as the description of the stop as shown in the accompanying drawing progresses.
In the drawing: Figures 1 and 2 are side elevation and plan, respectively, of the drawer stop before it is applied to the drawer. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the drawer to which said stop is applied. Fig. 4 is an underneath plan of the drawer showing a pair of the stops attached thereto. Fig. 5 is a section taken substantially on the line 55 of Fig. 4. Fig. 6 is a section taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. 7. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary plan view of a drawer with a portion of the bottom broken away to show the coacting parts of the stop applied to the drawer and a stationary part bounding the drawer opening in which the drawer operates. Fig. 8 is a vertical section taken through the detail shown in Fig. 9; and Fig. 9 is an under plan view of a detail of structure illustrating an adjustment for the drawer stop.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
That part of the drawer stop, two of which are attached to a movable drawer, is formed of sheet metal and comprises a head 1 from which extends a comparatively long section 2 while at substantially right angles to the section 2 a section 3 extends from the head 1 but is of comparatively short length. At the rear of the section 3 a lug 4 is turned at right angles. Projecting from the sides of the extension 2 opposite to the part 3 are ears 5 and 7 the ends of which are turned at right angles to form lugs 6 and 8 extending in a direction opposite to the lug 4. At the forward end of said extension 2 on the same side from which project ears 5 and 7 a lug 9 is turned at right angles and in the same direction as the lug 4, it however being located at right angles to said lug. 'Ihe head 1 may be formed with a corrugation 1a for the purpose of strengthening the same if desired. Also between the ears 7 and the lug 9 a semicylindrical extension 10 is formed projecting from the head 1 in the same direction as the ears 5 and 7 project from the extension 2.
The drawer to which devices of the character just described are to be attached is comprised of a front 11, spaced apart sides 12, a bottom 13 and a back 14 as is usual in constructions of this character. The bottom 13 is attached between the sides 12 seating in grooves formed in said sides and secured by glue, ordinarily, though any other suitable method of connection may be used. In applying my drawer stop to drawers of this character holes are drilled in the sides 12 adjacent the forward ends of said grooves slightly below the depth of the grooves and of such size as to receive the lugs 6 and 8 and the semi-cylindrical portion 10, the parts 6 and 8 resting in the bottom of the holes while the lug 9 strikes against the side of the drawer. The body of the member consisting of the head l and the extensions 2 and 3 will thus be positioned in a plane slightly below that of the grooves and the bottom 13 may be glued in place as before, the lugs 6 and 8 being located outside the edges of the bottom 13 and preventing the detachment of said metal member from the drawer. In fact, in order to detach said members it is necessary to entirely destroy `web 17 a distance from its center.

It will be observed that the-lugs 4 extend downwardly from the drawer and are positioned a distance in from each side 12, kDrawers of this character are adapted to berreceived within drawer openings in casings or the like and to slide over bottoms, one portion of which indicated at 15 is illustrated in Figs. 6 and 7. To this part 15 stationary devices will be secured one in the path yof each of the lugs' 4 and back of said lugs. Accordingly when a drawer is entered into a casing lugs 4 strike against said projections and will stop the drawer against too far inward movement. This is necessary especially in drawers in which the Jfronts are of more or less delicate construction so that if said fronts have to withstand the force of contact against the edges of a drawer open- .ing when a drawer is pushed into a casing they are liable to become broken and do become broken in many instances. With a drawer stop as described however, striking against a projection or the like attached to ,the rail 15, practically any degree of rough usage short of entire destruction of the drawer may be withstood, it being evident that when the lugs 4 hit against said projections the strain is imparted to the lugs 9,

lt is desirable'that the projection which stands in the way of the lugs 4 may be made adjustable so as to permit a slight range of adjustment respect-ing the entrance of the drawer into a casing. Ordinarilf, dowel pins and the like will be used to project upwardly from the rail 15 into the path of movement ofthe lugs 4 and these may be cut away somewhat if desired, but l have also shown a metal cylindrical 'housing 16 of shortlength between the sides of which is a web 1T, the lower edge of this housing being formed with a plurality of teeth 18 while an opening 19 is made through the A screw 20 is passed from the underside of the rail 15 through the rail and opening 19 and a nut 9,1 threaded on to the end of this screw, it being apparent that when the screw is turned and the nut tightened the projections 418 sink into the rail 15 and will serve to hold the device in place. With one of these located in the path of movement of each of the lugs 4 an effective stop is produced;
` and it is apparent that by merely loosening the screw'the part 16 may be turned about the screw as a pivot and located in different-positions to thereby effect van adjustment 'of the distance that the drawer may enter .the casing.
. A drawer stop` of this character is very simple is easily made and can be built into the drawers at the time they are formed with practically no additional expense. Such a stop is practically incapable of becoming detached from the drawer or otherwise getting out of order. l
qVarious slight changes in minor detail of structure may be resorted to without departing from the invention which is defined in the appended claims and accordingly I consider myself entitled to all modifications of structure falling within the scope of said claims.
I claim 1. In combination, with a drawer having sides and a bottom, of a stop device including a portion projecting downwardly below the bottom and a section turned to lie between the bottom and a side of said draweil to thereby secure the device in place, substantially as described.
2. ln combination, a drawer including sides each having a groove cut therein adjacent its lower edge and on its inner side, a stop device comprised of a `metal body having a lug turned therefrom and with ears extending from the body each terminating in a lug turned in a direction opposite to the first lug, said last named lugs seating in a groove, and a bottom secured in said grooves at its side edges and lying between the sides of the drawer.
3. A, stop member adapted to be attached to a drawer comprised of a metal member including a head having extensions at right angles to each other integral therewith, a lug turned at right angles to one of said extensions, an ear extending from the side of the other extension and a lug turned at right angles to the ear in a direction opposite the first lug.
4. A stop member adapted to be attached to a drawer comprised of a head, extensions thereto positioned in the same plane with the head and -at right angles to each other, a pair of ears projecting from the side of one extension and terminating in lugs turned at right angles to the plane of the head, a lug turned from the side edge of the head in the same direction as said lugs, and another lug turned from the other extension at right angles to the plane of the head, and also at right angles to the planes of the other lugs and in an opposite direction therefrom. i
