Specification ofLe'ttersIfatent. Patented Feb; 27 1917,
7 Application filed April 1 2, 1915. Serial No. 90,625;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. MEYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Forestell, in the county of St. Charles and State of Missouri, have invented certain:
thereof." The lugs are formed by stamping new and usefulImprovements in Stovepipe} Joint Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a stove pipe joint lock and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this inventionis to provide oppositely disposed lugs upon the interior of one section of the stove pipe and adapted to be received in looking grooves formed in the other section and said grooves being so constructed that the lugs will be held against accidental withdrawal, preventing the sections of the stove pipe from parting.
A further object of this invention is to provide the grooves with a downwardly inclined branch, to cause the sections to be drawn in the direction of each other, when one section is rotated causing the lugs to travel in the inclined branches of the grooves, thus drawing the sections together.
lNith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
Fo a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the follow? ing description'and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a stove pipe joint lock, constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1, illustrating the lugs held within the grooves against accidental displacement, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig.1.
Referring'in detail to'the drawing, the. numerals 1 and 2 indicate the sections of a stovepipe. Each of the sections are provided with oppositely disposed squared lugs 3 upon the interior and adjacent one end them out from the sections with any suitable blunt instrument.
The other end. of the sections 1 and 2 is provided with grooves consisting of relatively off set inner and outer vertical branches a and 5 and an inclined branch 6- extending downwardly from the lower end of the outer branch 4 to the upper end of the innerbranch 5 and a horizontal locking branch 7 extending from the lower end of the inner branch 5 in the direction of the lower end of the outer branch 4. The lock-- ing branch 7 is provided within its inner wall with an off set portion to form a socket 8 for receiving and holding the lug 3when the sections 1 and 2 areina locked position.
In looking the sections 1 and 2 together,
' opposite direction from the first direction of rotation, the lugs will travel in the locking branches 7 into the sockets 8 and be held against accidental withdrawal.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope. of the invention as claimed. 1
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is In a device of the character described consisting of telescopic stove pipe sections, a pair of lugs formed onone end of each of said sections, the other end of'said sections being provided. with oppositely disposed locking grooves, each of said grooves consisting of relatively ofi' set inner and outer vertical branches, and an inclined branch extending downwardly from the lower end of the outer branch to the upper end of the the lugs 3 are pushed downwardly in the I inner branch and a horizontal locking In testimony whereof I. afiix my signabranch extending from the lower end of ture in presence of two Witnesses. the inner branch in the direction of the JOHN A. MEYERS.
outer branch and provided With a socket in Witnesses: the bottom Wall thereof to hold the lugs GEO. N. RIEMEIER, against accidental Withdrawal. G. C. FRIDLEY.
