WATCH-CHAIN HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ROBERT G. FULLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented a new and useful VVatch-Chain Holder, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to a device applicable to the button hole of a vest for C holding the intermediate portion of a watch chain extended across the front of the vest, and it is the object of the invention to provide a novel device of that character having means for receiving the chain, means engageable with the button hole portion of the vest, and means for holding the device in place.

It is also the object of the invention to provide a device of the character indicated which is simple and inexpensive in construction, and which is desirable in use, the same preventing the chain and watch from being stolen, lost or dropped.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front view of the device.

Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view thereof.

In carrying out the invention, there is provided a button 1 of any suitable shape and constructed of any suitable material. and the front side thereof may be provided with any desired ornament or embellishment.

Assembled with this button 1 is a bar, strip or other elongated element of any suitable cross section and composed of any suitable material, and although the term bar is employed to designate this element, said term is not to be construed narrowly. portion 2 of the bar between the ends thereof is soldered or otherwise secured to the back of the button 1 in a vertical position, and the bar has a portion 3 bent back upwardly in rear of the portion 2 and providing a loop 4 through Which the chain 5 is inserted. chain is readily introduced through the loop or part 2 as will be apparent to the user. The bar is provided with a terminal portion 6 bent back from the upper end of the portion 3 and depending in rear of said portion 3. The terminal portion 6 projects downwardly past the bend between the portions 2 and 3, and is split and separated to provide the diverging prongs 7 for preventing the device from tilting when applied to the vest or other garment. The bar has a portion 8 bent rearwardly at an angle from the upper end of the portion 2 and resting upon the bend 9 between portion 3 and de pending terminal 6, the other terminal 10 of the bar projecting upwardly from the portion 8 above the terminal 6.

In applying the device to the vest after the chain 5 has been inserted through the loop 41-, the terminal or tongue 6 is inserted downwardly through the proper button hole of the vest. so that the lower edge portion of the vest below the button hole is received by the slot between the portion 3 and terminal 6, the bend 9 being adapted to rest upon said edge portion, and the device can then be tilted to introduce the upstanding terminal or tongue 10 through the button hole. The terminals 6 and 10 which project downwardly and upwardly, respectively, are therefore brought in rear of the vest. to hold the device in place, and the bend 9 in seating upon the lower edge of the button hole permits the button 1 and loop 4; to be spaced downwardly sufliciently so as not to interfere with the button of the vest which is engaged through the same button hole. The prongs 7 prevent the device from tilting, and the upstanding terminal or prong 10 assists in holding the device in place to prevent its accidental withdrawal from the button hole.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. A device of the character described embodying an elongated member having a vertical portion between its ends, a portion extending upwardly from the lower end of the vertical portion in rear thereof and providing a chain receiving loop, a depending termi nal portion extending from the upper end of the upwardly extending portion in rear thereof insertible through the button hole of a garment, a portion extending rearwardly from the upper end of the vertical portion over said upwardly extending por tion, and an upstanding terminal extending from said rearwardly extending portion to engage through the button hole.

2. A device of the character described embodying a button, and an elongated member having a vertical portion between its ends secured to the back of the button, said member having a portion extending upwardly from the lower end of the vertical portion in rear thereof and providing a chain receiving loop, a depending terminal portion extending from the upper end of the upwardly extending portion insertible through the button hole of a garment, a portion extending rearwardly from the upper end of the vertical portion, and an upstanding terminal extending from said rearwardly extending'portion to engage through the button hole.

3. A device of the character described embodying a button, and an elongated member having a vertical portion between its ends secured to the back of the button, said mem ber having a portion extending upwardly from the lower end of the vertical portion in rear thereof and providing a chain receiving loop, a depending terminal portion extending from the upper end of the upwardly extending portion insertible through the button hole of a garment, a portion extending rearwardly from the upper end of the vertical portion, and an upstanding terminal extending from said rearwardly extending portion to engage through the button hole, the depending terminal having divergl,
