The principal objects of the invention are, to provide means located at the back of the brassire for permitting'an adjustment ofthe body. portionv thereof,A and to' provide a back covering portion which will overlie the eyelets and lacings that are providedrto enable the adjustment feature to,

be carried out, so'that said eyelets and lacings will not be visible through lthe outer garment of the wearer.

A further object of the invention is to arrange this backv covering portion inl a manner whereby it can be drawn taut, thus smoothing out any bulging of the flesh that may be present on the back of the wearer through the use of a corset. Y

VA further Object of the invention is to attach this back covering portion to the shoulder straps fof the brassire, whereby when said covering portion is drawninto f position it will exert a pressure upon the shoulder straps, tending to prevent their slipping off from the shoulders of the wearer.

The invention further consist-s in the features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

ln the art to which the present invention relates, so far as I am aware, a brassire has never been constructed capable of adjustment in the manner of a corset, and furthermore, the brassires of which I am aware are made to smooth out the bulging iiesh at the front of the wearer, but make lno provision for smoothing out such bulging at the bac'lr'of the wearer. - Referring new to the drawings, the garment as therein shown comprises a section 4 and a section 5. 'lf'he section 41is formed along oneiedge with aseries of'eyes 6,;and the section is formed along an adjoining edge with a series of hooks 'l'V adapted to engage. with the eyes 6. This makes a. detachable connection between thesections Vof' the frontY of thegarment, although the `means employed 1 for such detachable connection may be varied from the hook and eye construction. The opposite edge of thesection 4 is formed with a `seriesof eyelets 8,and the edge of the section 5 adjoining thereto is formed'with a lseries of corresponding eyelets, notfshown.' `Both sets of eyelets are positioned at therear ofwthe garment, asV will bev clearly "understood from the 'drawl ing, and these eyelets receive a lacing cord`l 10. rlhis enables the edges of the sections 4 `and 5 at therear of the garment to be adjusted withfrespect to one another to vary the space therebetween," thus permittingof an adjustment of the entire garment after the manner in which corsets are adjusted.

A brassire is worn directly beneath the outer clothing. It would be unsightly and impractical to employ the eyelets and lacings at the back of the brassire without a covering. member, since if there were no co vering member provided, the eyelets and lac- -Y ings would show through the outer waist of the wearer, making the garment unsightly and rendering it commercially impractical. I therefore provide a fabric back lcoveringV portion 11, consisting of a part 12 extending across the back of the brassire. rlhis covering portion may, if desired, be provided with an embroidered surface, so as to obtain an artistic appearance when viewed through the outer garment of the wearer. v

Cppositely tapered tab-like parts 13- are provided, which extend from the lower edges of the part 12 to the front of the brassire; and the tabs 13 are in fact a part of the back covering portion 12. Connected to the ends of these tabs are strings or tape members 14, which can be tied together at the front as illustrated in Fig. 2. The covering portion is further provided with tabs 15 .two i-n iwi number), each of which is attached to a shoulder strap 16 of the brassire.

lt is obvious that when the tapes 14 are tied, the back partt12 oi the covering pori tion will overlie the eyelets and lacings at the back of the brassire, so as to conceal them from view. Also, when the covering portion is stretched and tied as in Fig. 2, it

will exert a pressure upon the back of the wearer, tending to smooth out any bulging ofzthe flesh that may be present at this point. Furthermore, the. tension of the covering portion will be exerted through the tabs l5 onto the shoulder strap 16, and will f thus preventsaid straps from sli1g pingV fromV the shoulders kof the wearer.

To' summarize, by the use of this bacli covering portion, l' accomplish three tunetions: First, I eiiect the concealment of the lacings and eyelets at the back of the brassire, thus producing a practicaladjustable brassire; second, l provide a portion at the back of the brassire which can be stretched and placed under-pressure to smooth outL any bulging i'lesli at this-point; and, third,

A brassire'comprising two sections, each formedl with a shoulder strap, means arranged along adjoining edges of said sections at the front of the garment or'detachably'connecting them together, means at the n baolrof the garment orV permitting an adjustment between the sections to vary the size of the garment, a covering portion arranged to extend across the back of the garment and to overlieand conceal said adjustingmeans, said covering portion being attached to the shoulder straps of said Garment, meansifor securing said covering portion in place, and
