Description

c. c. Macon/18s. COMBINED MARKING POT AND BRUSH.
APPLICATION FILED MAY l5, l9l7.

CHARLES C. MCCOMBS,
OF FRISCO, TEXAS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 29, 1918.
Application filed May 15, 1917. Serial No. 168,715.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. MoCoMBs, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Frisco, in the county of Collin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Marking-Pots and Brushes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a combination marking pot and brush and has for its ob ject the provision of a simple and efficient marking pot which will eflectually support a brush and prevent the handle thereof from dropping down in to the ink or paint contained therein.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a simple and efficient marking pot which is provided with a detachable cover so constructed as to prevent the spilling of the liquid contained within the cup should the cup be accidentally upset.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings Figure l is a side elevation of the marle ing cup showing the brush positioned therein;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the marking cup, the brush being removed therefrom;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the cup showing the cover removed therefrom;
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line i4c of Fig. 1; v
Fig. 5 is a detailed perspective view of the cover removed from the cup;
Fig. 6 is a detailed perspective of the brush used in connection with the present invention;
Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional View through the sidewall of the cup showing the manner of holding the cover thereon.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that 1 designates the body of the cup which may be of any shape or construction desired and this body 1 is provided with a suitable handle 2 for the purpose of permitting the cup to be conveniently handled. The body is provided near the top edge thereof with a pair of laterally extending integral lugs 3 which lugs 3 are adapted to firmly hold the cover upon the cup 1.
A detachable cover- 4 is adapted to be.
which rolled rim 5 spilling of the liquid from placed upon the top of the cup and this cover 4 is provided with a rolled. rim'5 is provided with a notched portion 6 upon each side of the cup for the purpose of permitting the lugs 3 of the cup to be inserted in the rolled flange 5 formed around the periphery or upper edge of the cover This cover 1 is provided with a depending which neck portion 7 down into the, body of the cup and con stitute a guide for the brush which is adapted to be placed within the cup. A ledge portion 8 is formed at the junction of the bowl 9 of the cover 4 and the collar 7 as shown clearly in Fig. 4 of the drawing for the purpose of permitting the flange 10 of the sleeve ll'carried b the handle 12 of the brush to rest thereon. It will be seen that is adapted to project neck portion 7,
this ledge 8 will constitute a support for the flange l0 and thereby not only constitute a closure for the top of the cup but will also constitute a sufiicient support for the brush. This sleeve 11 is adapted to surround the shank portion 13 of the brush so as to collect drippings from the brush and prevent ink, paint or other liquid contained upon the brush from running down the handle 12. A brush head 14 is mounted upon the lower end of the shank l3 and the lower edge of the brush is substantially wedge shaped as indicated by the numeral 15 in Fig. 6 for the purpose of facilitating the marking of the brush upon a receptacle or other device.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that a very simple and efficient device has been produced whereby the collar will not only constitute a collector for drippings from the brush should the brush be inverted, but will also constitute a guide for directing the brush into the sleeve 7 and at the same time constitute a top for preventing the evaporization of the liquid contained within the cup.
It should be further understood that should the cup become tilted the liquid within the cup will fall around the sides of the cup and will notspill out through the sleeve 7 of the cover 4. Theliquid is adapted to be placed in the cup only at a sufficient height to reach the bottom of the neck 7, thereby preventing the accidental the cup should the same-become accidentally overturned.
What is claimed is The combination with a marking pot comprising a body,'said marking pot provided hanging flange upon the top thereof, said 10 with a cover having a depending neck flange adapted to fit upon said ledge for formed thereon, said cover provided with supporting said brush upon said cover, and a ledge formed adjacent the bowl of said said sleeve adapted to constitute a recepcover and said neck, of a brush comprising tacle for receiving drippings from said brush a handle, said handle provided with a de- While the same is in use.
pending sleeve adapted to fit in said neck In testimony whereof I hereunto uilix my of said cover for constituting a closure signature.
therefor, said sleeve provided with an over- CHARLES C. MGCOMBS.
