Application filed June 29, 1917. Serial No. 177,645).
To all whom t may concern.'
Beit known that I, EDWARD BACON Gin `wenn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee, State of Michigan, have-invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Razor Alilones and Strops7 of which the following is a, description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,k forming. a part hereof. Y
My invention relates .to razor strops and has for its object to provide a razor strop which will be'adapted to foldup Vwhen not in use so as to be readily carried in a traveling bag or soldiers kit7 Vwill carry a hone and will have a pocket for a razor.
With these and other objects hereinafter explained in view my invention consists in the construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and claimed.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a razor strop embodyingl my invention shown open. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the strop closed and Fig'. 3 is a side view partly in central longitudinal section, of the strop as shown y in Fig. 2.
The strop as shown in the dran/'ings is made up of an inner layer 1 andan outer layer 2 of leather or other flexible material of which the inner layer, at least, is adapted for stropping a razor. The strop has at one end a handle 3 and at the other end is folded over as shown at 1- to hold a loop 5 of cord or the'like. Midway between its ends recesses 6 are formed in opposite sides so that lthe strop will readily bend or fold in line with these recesses.
The two layers 1 and 2 are preferably cemented together from the handle end to a point beyond the recesses 6 and from thisA point to the loop end are held Ytogether by lines of stitching 8 along the-edges and cross lines 9 and l10 near the loop end respectively the line of stitching 10 serving to hold the infolded end 4.
Near the loop end the outer layer 2 is cut to form a tongue 11 the opening formed by the cut serving as the entrance to the space between the layers 1 and 2 which forms a pocket to receive a razor.v The tongue 11 is r provided with one member 12 of-a separable spring fastener and the handle 3 is provided with the other member 13 of the fastener the handle being adapted when the strop is closed to'eXtend through the loop 5 and to have its fastener member come into engagement with the fastcur member on the tongue thus holding the tongue closed and also holding the strop in folded position- The fastener member 13 on the handle is preferably the socket member andbeing sei cured in place in the usual manner serves to aidl in holding the two layers 1 and 2 together.
On the portions of the strop between the recesses 6 and the loop 5, near the ends of this portion l provide cross strips 141 and 15 having respectively short tongue portions '16 and l? extending toward each other and each provided with kone member of a separable spring fastener 18. The cross strips let land 15 are conveniently secured in position by the lines of stitching 8. The tongues' 16 and 17 are adapted to receive beneath them the ends of a vflat plate 2O preferably of metal carrying a hone 29 and having on its ends fastener members 22Y adapted to be en- 'gaged by the fastener' members 18 on tongues 16 and 17. By separating these fasteners the plate 2O carrying the hone may be readily removed.
The plate 2O lies flatagainst the inner layer 1 of the strop, when in position and prevents any bending of this portion of the strop thus protecting the razor 23 in the pocket.
The plate 2O may be provided with a mirror in place of the hone or in place of a part of the hone.
The loop serves as a convenient means for carrying the device in folded condition and when the device isto be used for sharpthus described my invention what ,Copies of this patent may be obtained for to serve as a strop and-theotlier portion beme removable hone. l A
2. A combination razor strop fand hone" comprising a strip 'of iexible material Weakened between its ends to permit the two por- -tions `thereof to fold together one on the other, 'one/portion being on one face adapted Y t0 serve as a. strop andthe other portion being provided on its .corresponding face Qvvith a removable hone, the hone carrying portion Vbeing provided with a pocket having the opening leading thereto on the face opposite Vto that on which the hone is carried. Y
rh combination razor strop and hone eeniprising a strip'iforined of two layers of.' tlexi'ole material having theirilat 'sides sei cured together through part of their length,
' 'and weakened between its ends to permit the two portions thereof to told together one on*V the other, the o'neportion being on one face adapted to serve as a strop and the otherl portion carrying onits correspondingface a hone, the layers ott-the hone carrying por- 'tion being secured together at their edges only sol as to form between them a pocketl openV at one end.
el. A combination razor strop and lionev comprising a strip of flexible material vvealrened betvveenritsends to permit thetvvo por- 0- pi'ovided on itsv corresponding Vface With ing provided lon its Corresponding face with a removableY hone,YV the Vhone earryinor portion being -providedwvith a pocket having the `opening leading thereto on the face opposite to that on which the lione isvcarried,.a`t0ngue closing the ypocket openingrhaving a fastener memberV thereon and -an extension 'on the outer end of the strop portion adapted-to e fold over the outer end of the hone- Qarrying portion Vand `having a astener'member adaptedy to Vengagethe" fastener member on VV the tongue of the hone carryingv member.
' EVA Vcombination razor strop and honecomprising a strip of flexible material adapted toY be .bent 'betweenitsY ends to divide it'V into two portions, one-portion being on one face adapted'tofV serve Yasa strop andthe other portion being provided on "its corre#VV spending face near its end with cross strips v leach carrying a fastener member andra plate of relatively stiff material carrying a hone and provided at'its ends'vvith fastener meinr bersy adapted to engagethe fastenermeinbers of the cross strips.
