RAYMOND A. THOMPSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
BELT-WATCH HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 17, 1918.
Application filed Qctober 17, 1917. Serial No. 197,027.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RAYMOND A. THOMP- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Watch Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in belt watch holders.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a holder whereby the watch may be conveniently carried on the belt and which has many advantages in use over the ordinary wrist watch holder, now commonly in use.
With the foregoing and other objects in View that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts illustrated in the drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevation, illustrating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the belt watch holder.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 4 is a reverse plan view of the watch holder, with the parts extended.
Referring to the drawings for a more particular description of the invention, and which drawings are for illustrative purposes only, and are therefore not drawn to scale, 1 indicates the belt, 2 the watch holder and 3 a watch of any suitable design or make arranged in the holder.
The watch holder as shown, comprises an approximately rectangular oblong body portion consisting of the outer and inner strips, strips or members 1 and 5 stitched or otherwise secured together at the bottom and side edges 6 and 7 respectively. n
'Ihe inner strip 5 of the body member of the holder is provided with an attaching strap 8, between which and said inner strip passes the belt 1.
The outer strip 4 is provided at its top edge with a tapering flap 9 provided at its free end with one member, as 10, of a clasp, the other or companion member, as 11, of which is carried by the strap 8.
The outer strip or member l of the holder is provided with a central annular flange or rim 12, which is blocked out to receive and fit the edge of the watch.
This rim or flange is formed with a central opening 18, thereby exposing the face of the watch when arranged in position, and is also provided at the bottom with a centrally disposed vertical opening 14 to receive the stem 15 of the watch.
In order to protect the glass crystal of the watch and exclude dust, dampness, etc., from the pocket formed by the flange or rim 12, a disk or strip 151 of thin transparent material such as Celluloid or mica, may be used to cover the opening 13, and may be secured in place on the inside of the pocket 'bylstitching, gluing or otherwise fastening said disk or strip at its edge, as at 16, to the inner face of the flange or rim 12 adjacent the wall or edge of the opening 13.
In practice, the watch is inserted between the inner and outer strips 4 and 5 into the pocket formed by the annular flange or rim 12 in an inverted position, as shown in Fig. 1, with its stem 15 passing through the opening 14 in the aforesaid flange or rim.
A watch holder of the kind herein shown and described is convenient and durable and renders it impossible for the watch to drop out. The bow and stem of the watch are exposed, making it easy to rewind the watch while in the holder.
My improved belt watch holder has many advantages over the wrist watch holders now in use. For instance, wrist watches are easily damaged and the straps must be frequently replaced, while at the same time they are frequently in the way on the arm, especially while washing, etc.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is thought that the construction, operation and advantages of this invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A belt Watch holder comprising a body consisting of outer and inner strips, the 5 former having an annular flange or rim blocked 'out to form a. pocket for the watch, and an attaching strap secured to the back of the inner strip of the body portion, a flap extending from the top of the outer strip of the body portion of the holder, and a clasp 10 for detachably securing the free end of the flap to the strap.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two-Witnesses. l
