Be it known that I, EARL J. GiirGsY, acitizen of the United States, residing at Akron, iii the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Shade-Roller Brackets, of
which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings.
- This invention relates to an improved shade roller bracket and has for its primary object to provide a simple, durable and inexpensive device for mounting or supporting a curtain shade roller upon a window frame... 4
Itis a particular object of the present invention to provide a bracket member for rei ceiving the spring winding trunnion of the shade roller, consisting of a rectangular metal loop having a fastening screw fixed 'in one side thereof and an angular slot in its other side portion to receive the trunnion,
said slot being so disposed relative to the axis of the screw as to obviate any possibility of turning or rotative movement of the 'bracket by the angular pressure of the trunnion.
It is a fuither general object of my in'- vention to provide a shade roller bracket above characterized which lmay be easily and quickly applied in its operative position,

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improved combination, construction and relative arrangement of the several parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, subsequently claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawin in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the bracket members applied to a window frame;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through one of the bracket members;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 2 showing the position of the rectangular roller trunnion in the slot of the bracket member when the shade is pulled downwardly from the roller; and
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the bracket member is formed.

which are arranged at relatively opposite sides of the window frame, the member 5 lbeing provided with means to be hereinafter described to receive the rectangular trunnion of the roller, while the member 6 receives the cylindrical roller trunnion,
Each bracket member is formed from a sheet metal plate 7 shown in blank in Fig. l, this plate being stamped or cut out in proper length and width and provided adjacent each of its ends with an opening 8. The plate 7 from which the bracket member 5 is formed is further provided intermediate of its ends with' a trunnion receiving slot having an angularly inclined entrance portion 9 extending inwardly from one longi tudinal edge of the plate and a portion 10 extending longitudinally of the bracket plate midway between the longitudinal edges thereof. The plate 7 from which the other bracket member 6 is formed is centrally prof vided with a circular opening as shown at 11.
The sheet metal plate 7 is bent upon itself to provide an elongated loop, the end p0rtions of the plate being lapped upon each ther' so as to dispose the openings 8 in coinciding relation, said end portions of the plate being suitably spaced from the medial portion thereof. One end of a threaded shank or screw 12 is rigidly fixed in the openings 8 to connect the lapped end por# tions of the plate 7 and this screw is formed with a shoulder 13 which limits the penetration of the screw into the window frame.
In the use of my improved shade roller brackets, the brackets are mounted upon the opposite sides of the window frame, the screws 12 being threaded therein until the shoulders 13 abut against the face of the These shoulders space the lapped ond portions of the bracket plate from the face of the frame so that the latter will not be marred. The shade roller is then arranged in position. the cylindrical trunnion at one end thereof being engaged through the circular opening 11 of the bracket meinber 6, while the rectangular trunnion at the opposite end of the roller is inserted into the entrance 9 and then downwardly into the portion 10 of the slot in the bracket member 5. As seen in Fig. 3 of the drawing, the portion 10 of this slot is of such depth that the upper edge of the roller trunnioii is disposed in a plane which coincides with the axis of the attaching screw 12. Thus when the shade is pulled downwardly and there is a downward pressure of the trunnion on the lower edge of the slot portion 10, the trunnion will be rocked in said slot which is of slightly greaterwidth than the thirkness of the trunnion and the upper edge of the trunnion will bear againstth'e inn-er edgeof the slot at a point inline with' metaljpl-atelbentupon itself to providean the axis of the screw. -Thisturning monernent of the bracket member is obvlated, and
