T0 all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, ETHAN I. Doniis, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Pittsburg in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stay-Bolt Structures; and I do hereby deth clare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

' improvements in plug 15,the purpose of which is to facililtjatie the mounting of the head of the stay- It will 4be seen that with my improvements e cap or closure also constitutes a bearing for the head stayboltl and that noriengagement of the segmental lugs of the cap he segmental lugs on the sleeve or u shing 2. By turning the cap so as to bring the segmental shoulders or lugs thereon out of line with the segmental shoulders on the sleeve or bushing 2, the staybolt may be tested to determine whether or not it is broken by attempting to pry the cap from this sleeve or bushing. operation may be performed by inserting a suitable tool under the flanged edge portion of the cap. Thus the bolt may be tested without the removal of any of the parts.

aving fully described my invention what his invention relates to staybolt structures and more particularly to the devices which constitute the inclosed caring for the head of the staybolt, the object of the invention being to provide a simple construction whereby quick and ready access to the head of the bolt will be facilitated without removing the parts, to permit testing of the bolt.

With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a longitudine sectional view showing an embodiment of my invention, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

l represents a boiler sheet having an opening therein, the wall of which may be threaded for the accommodation of a sleeve or bushing 2. The inner Vend of this sleeve or bushing is provided with a tapering opening 3 for the accommodation of the neck portion 4 of a staybolt 5,-the latter having a rounded or spherical head 6. The sleeve or bushing 2 is formed with a seat 7 upon which 4 thle inner end of an annular member 8 on a cap 9 rests. The annular portion 8 of the cap fits neatly within the bushing 2 and is 'ded interiorly with a curved face 10' forms a bearing for the rounded or spherical head 6 of ripheral ters-Patent, is:
