To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRVIN M. COOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Terminal Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to terminal boxes for telephone or other cables, such boxes being frequently mounted on telephone poles or the like for the purpose of housing and supporting the cable terminals and connec tions.
The object of the invention is to provide a housing which can be permanently attached to a pole or other support and which can be readily opened for the purpose of making connections when desired, without removing the box from the support. A further object of the invention is to provide a weather proof housing which is readily accessible to the lineman and in which all parts of the connections can be readlly got at for the purpose of work thereon.
The device comprises a fixed back or part, a hinged plate or board which carries the terminals or connectors, and the sliding cover which can be removed for access to the interior. The terminal board is so arranged that either the front or the rear connections are easily accessible.
The details of the invention will be apparent from the following description and accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the box with the cover partly raised;

Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 indicates the back part of the box or housing. This comprises a recessed casing, with sides 7 flared outwardly, and a top flange 8. This casing has rearwardly projecting ears 9 by which it may be attached to a-telephone pole or other support by bolts or other suitable devices. At the bottom, this box section has a removable bottom piece 10 with holes 11 through which the cables (not shown) may be entered from below. The
bottom piece slides in guides 10. Since the cables and the manner of connecting the same form no part of the invention, they are not shown.
The partition or panel board which carries. the fuse strips and the binding posts, comprises a frame 12 with panels 13 and 14 of insulating material secured thereto, and the frame'has vertical forwardly projecting flanges 15 which bridge the panels 14 and are provided with openings 16 for the fuses (not shown). The frame and panels comprise a unitary structure which fits against the front of the back section of the box. The frame 12 has a horizontal flange 17 at the bottom provided with cable openings 18, and the whole frame is hinged to the back section by means of projecting cars 19 which are pivoted to cars 20 on the bottom of the back section 6 by means of hinge pins 21.
The sliding cover or front section of the box comprises a front plate 22, sides 23 and the top 24 which when in position laps the top 8 of the back section, as shown in Fig. 2. The sides 23 have inwardly projecting flanges 25 which engage slidably behind the margins 26 at the front edges of the sides 7 of the back section, this cover or front part being open at the bottom. It has a hand cleat 27 by which it may be lifted.
Access to the front of the panel board may be obtained by removing the front section of the cover. This is done by lifting or sliding it up until the flanges 25 clear the edges 26. The front of the panel board is thereby exposed for work on the front sections, without disturbing any other part of the device. To get at the rear of the panel board, the screw 30 at the top is removed, and the whole frame 12 and the panels carried thereby are free to swing forwardly and outwardly on the hinge pins 21, thereby exposing the back of the board and permitting the rear connections to be made. The box is closed by swinging up the panel board and inserting the screw 30, and then sliding the cover or front section in place from above. It will be noted that the whole panel board may be assembled as a unitary structure before it is placed in the box, and when the box sections are united, a complete housing is formed which protects the panel board and its connections from the weather.
For the purpose of holding in position the cables which are entered through the holes 11 of the box s'ection,I provide a cross rod or spindle 81' which is supported on suitable lugs fastened to the sides of the box section. In a similar manner I provide alower cross rod or spindle 31 which serves to takecare of the slacked wire strands and preventing same from spreading over the box; 32 1s a' simple locking device to hold the cross rod 31 securely in position. 7 r
