In my former device it Was the object to difierentially act upon the split terminals to first separate. them, and tliereafizertelescope these terminals in order to reduce the diameter of the rim. I found. ii -practice that While the operation of removing and taking oil a tire was greatly facilitated by my former device, still, in many instances diflicnlty was encountered in expanding so as to return the split terminals into their initialahutting relation. While the resili ency of a will cause it to automatically expand, when released, to a hearly complete initial position, this resiliency cannot he re lied upon for completely and finally returning; the split ends into abutting relation.
It is the object of my present improved" device 'to not only difierentially act upon; the split terminals to first radially separate and then contract the same, but also, to subsequently dillerentially act upon the split terminals to expand the sarne into their normal abutting relationposition. A threaded clip bolt 21 engages the the tee engagement with web 1 to act in opposition to rod ends 9 and 10 in order to expand the rim when the turn buckle '20 is rotated in one direction. A pair of clips or hooks 23 is' pivoted by a pivot bolt 24 to a reduced portion 25, of bolt 21. A winged nut 26 serves to adjust the hooks 23 tightly against the ri-mi when desired. The clips or hooks 11 and 12 are inall respects similar to *the hooks 23; It is preferable toapply thedevice in a manner similar to the application shown in Fig. 1 so that the longitudinal axis of-the actuating rod device will not be in device to break at alinementwith rod 7, but will be s'li htly to the left of rod '7, as indicated at a. v hus ivot 17 will dead center with'respect to rod and prevent buckling of the device laterally to the right of Fig. 1 under compres sion or expanding stress applied to therods. However, the clips 12 would not permit the pivot 17 after certain. play had been taken up. It will now be clear that by turning the nut 20 in one direction, the rim will be contracted. Under tension. stress illustrated, there will be a certain. amount of play or space between-the rod ends and the rim web, as shown in Fig. 2. When the nut 20; 1s
turned 'to expand the rim, the first few turns will merely releasethe rim for expansion under its own inherent resiliency. After this resiliency is exhausted, then further turning of the nut 20 will bring the rod ends into engagement with the rims web 1,
as shown in Fig.- 3, and from that pointon, the rods will be under compression and will be forced radially outwardly until the ends 5 and 6 have been sna p'ed into position.
It is believed that he novelty and utility of my invention will be fully understood from theforegoing description, and while I have herein shown anddescribed one specific as the claims may import.

inner face of said rim to first telescopically expand said split terminals and then force the ends of said terminals into abutting relation, the clearance between the terminal ends ofsaid 'rods and the inner face of sald rim being sufficiently reduced to prevent disconnection of said clips from the flange mar' tion and removal of a casing on and oil a split rim, a turn buckle bodyfa threaded bolt for engagement with one end of said body and havi g an end for expansive engagement with the inner face of said rim sub stantially diametrically opposite the split portion thereof, clip means connected with said bolt for contractively engaging .said rim, a second threaded bolt for the remaining end of said turn buckle body, a relatively long differential rod pivoted to said second bolt and havingan endfor expansive face of one split .termmal of said rim, a relatively short engagement with the inner d f 1 ferential rod pivoted to said second bolt and having an end for expansive engagement with the inner face of the remaining terminal'of said rim, terminal clip means for each rod for contractive engagement with the terminal ends of said rim, whereby rotative adjustment of said turn buckle body in one direction will differentially operate on said split terminals to first radially separate and then telescopically contract said terminals, and rotative adjustment of said'buckle body in another direction will first differentially expand said rim terminals and then force the innermost terminal into abutting relation with the outermost terminal.
