BENJAMIN F. COX, O15 MERCEDES, TEXAS.
GAME-RETAINING GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1'17, 19119.
Application filed November 30, 1917. Serial No. 204,630.
To all whom it may concern: 7
lie it known that I, BENJAMIN F. Cox, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mercedes, in the county of Hidalgo and State of Texas. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gallic-Retaining (izll'lllellts, of which the following is a speci lication.
This invention relates to apparel and the invention has more especial reference to an improved sportsmans garment.
The invention has for its dominant object to provide a novel garment in form of a coat having a game receiving pocket therein for retaining the game shot, which, as it becomes necessary, can be easily and thoroughly cleaned, thus rendering the garment sanitary and adding materially to the durability of the same.
Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide a garment having shell retaining pockets formed therein and so arranged as to permit ready access thereto.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a coat of the character mentioned having the sleeves thereof detachably mounted in order that the same can be readily removed for washing or when it is desired to use the garment as a vest.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide the garment with a novel bosom, the same being detachably engaged with the neck portion of the garment, whereby an effectual shield for the chest of the wearer will be provided.
The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, in connection with the specific description hereinafter contained, and wherein the preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of imparting a full understanding of the same.
In the drawings Figure l is a plan of the improved garment,
Fig. 2 through,
Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the same, k
Fig. 4 is a front elevation thereof, and
Fig. 5 is a detail elevation of the bosom attachment.
Having more particular reference to the is a longitudinal section theredrawings and in connection with which like reference characters will designate corresponding parts throughout the several views ofthe drawings, 1 represents the body of the garment, the same being formed in the shape of the conventional design of vest; having arm receiving openings therein and means, hereinafter described for fastening the garment about the body of a user.
It is to be noted, that the lower portion of the garment is curved as at 2 in order that the same will properly conform to the body of a person when arranged thereabout.
Stitched to the lower portion of the body 1 is a transversely disposed piece of fabric 3 having series of eyelets 4 arranged ad- 'jacent certain of the edges thereof, it being noted in this connection, that the upper portion only of the said strip of fabric is stitched to the body portion 1. Suitable openings are left in the opposite ends of the pocket formed by the arrangement of the strip of fabric 3 and as will be appreciated, will permit the placing or removing of game therein by the user. Other openings or slits 5 are formed in the body portion 1 and communicate with the pocket formed in the garment, thereby affording other means of access for the same.
A series of eyelets 6 are arranged in the lower portion of the body 1 corresponding to the eyelets 4 arranged in the fabric strip 3 and are adapted to receive laces 7 therethrough, whereby the lower portion of the fabric strip may be detachably connected to the body 1, thus, completing the pocket.
Shell or cartridge receiving pockets 8 are formed in the lower portion of the body 1 at points convenient to the hands of a user and are normally closed by flaps 9 arranged thereover.
Due to the fact that the eyelets 4 and 6 extend for a distance along the opposite sides of the body of the garment, it will be readily understood that the same may be held about the body of a user, by means of the laces 7.
Engaged with the marginal portion of the taching the neck or bosom portion 10 to the garment, the same will be converted into an efiicient coat.
Series of other fasteners are arranged adj acent the arm holes of the garment and are adapted to be engaged With complemental fasteners carried on the adjacent ends of sleeves 12, it being noted that the said sleeves are provided with flaps upon the ends thereof capable of fully covering the shoulders of the body portion of the garment. By providing the garment with detachable sleeves and the detachable bosom or neck portion, it will be readily understood that the same may be instantly converted into a coat or if desired, Worn as a vest. Thus, the user is afforded two garments.
When using the improved garment, it will be readily understood that the pocket formed by the arranging of the strip of fabric 3 may be easily and readily cleaned as it becomes necessary, thereby rendering the garment sanitary and adding materially to the durability thereof by preventing the accumulation of dirt and other matter therein.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is within the scope of my claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim 1. A garment of the character described having a transversely disposed strip of fabric stitched at one edge to the intermediate portion thereof, means engageable with the free portions of said strip and the adjacent portions of the garment for temporarily.
closing the same, said garment having slits formed therein communicating with the pocket formed by the arrangement of said strip of fabric thereacross.
2. A garment of the character described including a body, a strip of fabric stitched transverse at one side to the intermediate portion of the body, eyelets arranged in the free portions of said strip of fabric and the body portion, means receivable through said eyelets for detachably connecting the strip to the body portion, said body portion having openings formed therein communicating with the pocket formed by the arrangement of said strip of fabric.
3. A garment of the character described including a body, a transversely disposed strip of fabric stitched adjacent one edge thereof to the intermediate portion of said body, said strip of fabric being of a length corresponding to the width of the body, removable fastening means engaged with the lower portions of said strip of fabric and the body and with portions of the ends of said strip and the adjacent portions of the sides of the body whereby to form a pocket in the lower portion of the garment extending entirely across the body and having hand openings in its opposite ends, the intermediate portion of thebody having vertical hand receiving openings therein to provide further means of access to said pockets.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature hereto.
BENJAMIN F. COX.
