DUST PREVENTER APPucATloN' 'FILED Nov. 9. 1.918.
'tented Nov. 18, 1919A.
W UI KONG UN, 0F HONGKONG, CHINA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed November 9, 1918. Serial No. 261,853.
To nl] whom z' may concern Be it known that I, WUI KONG UN, a citizen of China, residing at Hongkong, China, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust-Prevcnters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in dust preventers or collectors, and has foi one of its objects the provision of a device of this' character which can be comfortably worn within the nostrils of the nose to collect foreign matter to prevent a person from inhaling or drawing such mattei' into thel lungs. thus providing a device adaptable for persons Working in mines, foumlries, machine shops and the like.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a supporting` frame carrying filtering members, adapted to be supported in the. nostrils of the nose by said frame, so that the air drawn into the lungs will be purified or freed from dust and like matter.
A further object of this invention is the provision of' a dust preventer of the above stated character, which will be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparativelyv low cost.
vWith these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain nov'el features of construction, combination and arrangcmentof parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing. in which:
Figure 1 is a fragment-ary side elevation of a human being.l illustrating a. dust preventer 'constructed in accordance with my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2' is a front elevation ot' the preventer.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same.
lP ig. 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view, illustrating the manner of securing the purifying members to the frame.
Referring in detail to thc drawing, the
numeral l indicates as an entirety a supportespecially ,to insert them within ing frame, consisting of'a pair of members 2, constructed from metal, or any other material suitable for the purpose, and which members are of substantially U-shaped formation, having one of their ends flattened to form linger grips 3. Angularly related straight extensions '-1 are formed upon the other ends of the members 2, and are adapted to extend through purifying members 5. The purifying members 5 are preferablv constructed of very fine sponge, but may e constructed from any other material suitable for the purpose. The purifying members 5 are retained upon the extensions -t by means of washers 6, mounted upon the extensions and disposed against each end of the members 5. The purifying members 5 are of substantially hemispherical shape, So that they will completely close the nostrils of the nose 7 when inserted therein, thus compelling the air entering through the nose into the lungs to pass through the filtering members, which will remove dust and other foreign matter therefrom.
The members 2 are -oppositely disposed `and are connected by a resilient arcuate shaped member S. The member 8 is secured to the members 2 in ner, and when the filterin members 5 are inserted in the nostrils o the nose 7, the arcuate shaped member 8 fits about the lower edge of the septum. The resilient member 8 has a tendency to draw the filtering members 5 in the direction of each other, and the nostrils of the nose, the fingers grips 3 are moved in the direction of each other by gripping them between the index finger and thumb, so as to move the filtering members' 5 away from each other and aline them, so that they can be readily inserted within the nostrils of the nose. i
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
lVhat I claim is:
A dust preventer orpcollector comprising a pair of substantially U-shaped members, finger grips formed upon onev of the ends of said members, angular-ly related extenany desired man sions formed upon the other ends of said lage of the nose when inserted Within the members, Sponges having the extensions. nostrils. 10 passing therethrough, washers carried by In testimony whereof I airix my signature said extensions and engaging the ends of the in presence of two witnesses.
sponges, and an arcuate shaped resilient VUI KONG UN. member connecting the substantially U- 7itnessesI shaped members together and adapted to TAM VIN KM,
cause the Sponges to bear against the eartif LOKSINGEUI.
