LID AND LABEL HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 18, 1919.
Application filed February 20, 1918. Serial N 0. 218,326.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALBERT B. VVATTs, a citizen of the United States, residing at F alfurrias, in the county of Brooks and State of Texas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lid and Label Holders, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in price tag holders for cigar boxes and other merchandise containers.
In carrying out my invention it is my purpose to produce an extremely simple device for this purpose, whereby the lid will be held against the side of the box so that the said box will be sustained at an inclination to permit of the contents thereof being fully displayed, and adding to the convenience in handling the box and in removing the contents therefrom, as well as distinctively displaying a removable price tag.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the inventionis better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating the application of the improvement.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken approximately centrally through the improvement.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improvement, the price card being detached.
Fig. 4 is a view of the blank from which the device is formed.
My device is primarily adapted for use in connection with cigar boxes, but may, of course, be used with equal efliciency upon covered boxes containing other merchandise.
Referring now to the drawings in detail the numeral 1 designates an ordinary cigar box having the usual hinged cover 2.
With my improvement the cover is held against one of the sides of the box, so that the box will be sustained at an inclination, resting upon the outer edge of the cover and the lower outer corner of the box. The improvement is constructed from a flat substantially rectangular blank of suitable metal. embodying a determined amount of natural resiliency. The metal plate is in dicated by the numeral 3, and as disclosed by the drawings has its corners slitted inwardly and the metal between the slits and the edges of the plate 3 is bent over the plate providing spring clips 4. Between these clips is arranged the price or other tag 5. The tag, being of paper or cardboard may becentrally rounded upon itself to permit of the opposite edges thereof being received in the clips, and the said clips, as stated being of spring material are designed to clamp the tag against the plate.
The plate 3 has one of its edges formed with an outwardly extending tongue 6, and the said plate, in a line with the said tongue is slitted both longitudinally and transversely, and the metal bounded by these slits is bent outwardly to provide a second tongue The tongue 6 is bent over the edge of the plate in the direction of the tongue 7, and these tongues are designed to exert a tension or pressure toward each other. If desired, and preferably, the outer tongue 6 has its end rounded outwardly as at 8 to provide what may be termed a flared entrance between the tongues. vVhen the device is arranged on the box, as illustrated in.
Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings the tongue 7 is brought to contact with the inner wall of the side member of the box to which the hinged lid 2 is connected, and the outer tongue 6 contacts with the outer face of the lid or cover be seen that the lid 2 is held in open position against the side of the box 1, so that the lid forms a support for the inner portion of the box, and thus the box is retained at an angle upon its support, so that the merchandise therein will be conspicuously displayed.
It is believed, from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings, that the simplicity and advan tages of the construction will be apparent without further detailed description.
What I claim is:
In a device for the purpose set forth, a substantially rectangular flexible plate having a right angular tongue at one of the edges thereof and the lower end of the said tongue being rounded outwardly, said plate, at its corners having overlying substantially rectangular spring clips, and being integrally formed at the bottom portion thereof with a second spring tongue disposed directly to the rear of the first mentioned spring tongue.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ALBERT B. WATTS.
2. By this arrangement it will
