DEVICE FOR MOVING FLUIDS.

Specification of Letters Patent; Patented Mar. 34 1920.

Application filed April 22, 1919. Serial No. 291,847.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PIERRE LEOOMTE DU NoiiY, a citizen of France, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhat tan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Devlce for Moving Fluids, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for moving fluids, and pertains more particularly to apparatus for use in transferring fiulds in surgical operations and other cases requ ring cleanliness, sterility and absence of movable or corrodible parts.

In devices of this character, it is desirable that a continuous flow of the fluid be maintained, and it is an object of the present 1nvention to enable this result to be obtained.

It is a further object of this invention to construct a device in such a manner that the rapidity at which fluid is transferred may be varied at the will of the operator, and, at the same time, maintain a practically continuousflow, while at all times preventing back flow.

With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation of the device, and

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1; 7 Referring more particularly to the drawings, the device comprises a base 5, near one end of which is mounted a motor 6, preferably of the electric type. Power for this motor is supplied by means of the electric conductors 7, and its supply to the motor 6 is controlled by means of the switch 8. The reference character 9 designates a suitable housing, in which is mounted a transmission gearing, and said gearing is driven by means of a shaft 30, which in turn receives its power from the motor 6.

Mounted in bearings 11, is a shaft 10, said bearings being secured to the base 5 by means of bolts or the like 12. Splined to the shaft 10, by means of keys 13, are two spaced disks 14:, and freely rotatable in said disks are rollers 15.

The reference character 16 designates a pair of brackets in which is pivoted a member 18, the upper face of which is curved as at 19, the pivotal point of said pivoted member 18 being designated by the reference character 17. A dash-pot 20 is secured to the base and projecting upwardly of the dash-pot 20, is a stem or rod 21, the outer end of which is suitably secured to the under face of the pivoted member 18.

The reference character 22 designates a flexible tubing, and said flexible tubing is adapted to lie in contact with the curved upper face of the pivoted member 18, as best shown in Fig. 1.

The operation of the device is as follows: Upon operation of the/motor, the transmission gearing in the housing 9 is driven through the medium of the shaft 30 and said transmission mechanism serves as the means 'for driving the shaft 10, which, however,

forms no part of the present invention, and is not, therefore, herein shown. As the shaft 10 rotates, the rollers 15 successively entube will be forced to travel therethrough.

As the rollers 15 continue to move in contact with the flexible tube-22, it will be seen that a constant flow of liquid therethrough is maintained, the speed at which said liquid flows being determined by the speed of rotation of the several rollers 15.

From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that the present invention provides a device of the character described in which a constant flow of fluid may be maintained at a predetermined pressure, and, furthermore, by regulation of the speed of the motor 6, the rate of movement of the fluid through the flexible tube 22 may be varied.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1.
