insets-st.
of including a container or actual packet of the goods being advertised; to provide in a device of the class described an efiective and quickly operated locking arrangement; the provision of a device of the class described. stamped in the form of a fiat blank totacilitate the ready application of printed matter thereto prior to the bending of the de-' vice into finished form; a novel method of forming the finished article; the provision or a display device of simple, economical ment; and such further objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully apear.
My invention further resides in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawings, and while I have illustrated therein a preferred embodiment, I desire the same to be understood as illustrative only; and not as limiting the scope of my invention.
1n the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display device embodying my invention. t
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation, the right hand side of this view being shown partly in section for the sake of clearness.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. i is a vertical section on the line d-AofFig2.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of theblank from which my device is formed, and shows the same prior to bending into final form.
Referring to the drawings it will be seen that my improved display device as seen in Fig. 1, is adapted, as hereinafter more fully set forth, to be bent and locked in the finished form, to have the appearance of including a container or actual packet of the goods be- Spccification of Letters Patent.

ing advertised, which packet in this figure is for the sake of illustration shown in the form of a one pound container or carton for butter. The container or packet included, may, of course, assume difierent forms, to represent various materials to suit the particular customer. 7
Referring more particularly to Fig. 5, it will be seen that my device may be stamped in flat form from any suitable material such as cardboard, or the like, and comprises in general the back or upright portion 1, the base portion 2, which is secured integrally to portion 1 by the connecting portion 3; which latter Wlll represent the upper portion of the container or acket. The back portion 1 includes the side portions 4 and 5, which are formed at their edges at the desirable position with the lockin projections or keys 6 and 7, respectively. ide portions or wings r and 5 are bent along, lines a and b rearwardly at an angle as shown in Fig. 3. Portion 1 is separated from the base portion 2, along the lines 8, 9, 10 and 11 to tecilitate bending along the dotted lines 12 and 13, to throw the portion 1% into a posi-' tion spaced outwardly from back portion 1, to represent the front of the packet, while the portion 8, as above stated, will form the top of said packet. Base portion 2 will at the same time have the outwardly extending wings 15 and 16 bent backwardly along lines 17 and 18 to bring the upwardly extending cars 19 and 20 back of upright portion 1,
to position slots 21 and 22 in registry with the locking tongues 6 and 7, whereby the latter may be inserted through these slots to lock wings 19 and 20,'in position as shown 7 more clearly in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. These bending operations will bring the bottom edges of vertical portion 1 in substantial alinement with the bottom of base 2.,v to permit the device to stand on a substantially level supporting surface, as will be more-readily understood from an inspection of Figs. 1, 2 and 4.
Prior to bending the blank shown in Fig. 5, the same may be passed through a printing press, or treated in any other waydesirable, to print upon the various portions thereof the advertising matter required, which as illustrated in Fig. 1 is in the present instance the simulation on horizontal surface 3, portion 14, and parts of side wings appearance of the actual attachment to the i added thereto anyadvertisin back portion 1,. of a carton-of this material;
manufacture, can assume any desired form.
I representing various advertisements, and because of my novel lockin arrangement can relating thereto, it is, of course, understood that any material desired may be represent Due to the angular arrangement of lockbe rigidly locked in final orm with ease and effectiveness. While I haveshown in th giresent illustration a packet of butter an advertising ed and advertised on this device.
ing wings 15 and 16 the locking tongues'fi and 7 when passed through slots 21 and 22 will be of such nature as to very effectively hold these parts together, and because of the simplicity of arrangement the blank may be quickly bent into final form effectively locked together.
and the parts Having now described my invention, I claim:-
l. A display device comprising aback portion having angularly and. rearwardly -bent side wings provided with locking extension s, a forwardly extending base portion having a top and rearwardly bent side wings, said last mentioned wings extending back of said back portion and having means cooperating with saidlocking extensions to lock the parts together. a 2, A display device comprising a back portion having angularly and rearwardly bent side wings provided with looking extensions, a forwardly extending base ortion having a top and rearwardly bent side w ngs, said last mentioned wings extending back of said back portion and havingmeans coiiperating with said locking extensions'to lock the parts together, said means comprising slots in the base portion wings through which said locking larly respectively.
extensions pass angu together, as set 3. In a display device of the class described, a back portion having rearwardly and'angularly extending locking tongues, a base portion having rearwardly extending wings provided with slots adapted to receive said locking tongues, and a connecting portion between the said back'portion and said base portion to represent the top of a container, the front and sides of the container being represented by the front and portions of the wings ofsaid base portion.
"4'. An advertising device representing an npright advertising space and a carton of the material being advertised, comprising an upright portion adapted to receive. advertising matter, a base portion having a front face, and rearwardly'extended side portions to represent the front and the ends of said carton, and a connecting upper portion to represent the top of sald carton, said last .mentioned portion being integrally connected .with said back portion, said rearwardlyextending portions of the base extending behind said back portion, arid means to lock the latter with relation to. said back portion, said device being capable of being laid out flat to receive the advertising printing on one sideonly.
5. In a display device a back portion ha-ving rearwardly and angularly extending arms, a forwardly extending portion, Wings extending from said forwardly extending ortion through and a substantial distance ack of: said back portion, and means for locking said wings and saidarms together back of said back portion.
6, In a .display device a back portion adapted to receive advertising matter, a forwardly extending portion representing a carton of the material being advertised, wings extending from said forwardly projecting' portion back of said back portion, and means for locking said wings and said back portiontogether, said means comprising locking tongues extending rearwardly at In witness whereof I hereunto subscribe my nameto this sgpcification. 1
