BELT GUN REST.

Application filed November 4, 1921.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALLIE 1V. Dumas, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, have Invented leertain new and useful Improvements in Belt Gun Rests, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in gun rests and more particularly to belt gun rests; and the object is to provide a simple and highly efiicient gun rest for practicaluse in shooting and for teaching and learning to shoot guns which can be supported from a belt; and to provide a gun rest which is adjustable to several positions vertically and which may be used when shooting agun with the butt resting on either the right or the left shoulder, and which may be used by ladies as well as by men. Other objects and advantages will be fully explained in the following description and the invention will be more particularly pointed out in the claims.

Reference is had to the accompanying drawings Which form a part of this application.

Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the gun rest. Fig. 2 is a face view of the base which is supported by a belt. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the rod which spaces the rest from the base. Fig. 4: is detail view, showing a variation in the spacing rod. Fig. 5 is a detail view, showing another variation in the spacing rod. Fig. 6 is an enlarged detail view, show ing the hinged connection of the spacing rod with the base. View showing the hinged connection of the gun rest with the spacing rod. Fig. 8 is an enlarged view of the hinge, showing the rod connected thereto. Fig. 9 is a detail view, showing a variation in the base.

Similar characters of reference are used to indicate the same parts throughout the several views.

This gun rest is provided with a base 1 which may be of leather or fibre or other suitable material. A strap 2 is riveted thereto to form a loop to receive the usual belt usually worm by men. A spacing rod is provided and may be made of a plurality of members. Fig. 1 shows rod 3 which is made rigid with a sleeve member 1. metal plate 7. The plate 7 is riveted to the base 1 and parts are struck therefrom and bent to form the hinge members 6. The variation shown in Fig. 9 consists in separate hinge members 8 which are riveted to the plate 1. The rod 3 is screwed into the tubular or cylindrical member 5 which turns 'as a brace against lateral motion of the spacing rod or adjusting rod and so aid in holding the gun in the desired position; The gun rest 10 may be made of leather or other flexible material and this rest is connected to the spacing rod. The spacing rod has an adjustable member .11 which may be held at different positions in the tubular member 4 by a set screw 12. The upper end of the rod 11 is screwed into a rest bar member 13. The rest 10 is riveted to the member 13 and extended below the member 13 to form ahand rest 14'. This is done by folding the extension of material of rest 10 about the rod 11 and riveting the folded parts together. The member 13 may be a tube but away at the ends so that it can be riveted to the rest 10. With this construction, the rest 10 is free to swing vertically to the required position.

The spacing rod may be a jointed rod connected by threaded sleeves as shown in Fig. 4. The spacing rod may be in parts hingedly connected, as shown in Fig. 5. The rod parts 15 may be slotted in the ends and connected by a link plate 16 and a sleeve 17. The parts 15 are connected by the link plate 16 with rivets and slots 18 for the rivets so that the parts 15 may be folded on each other when the sleeve 17 is released by the set screw 19 and moved off of the joint.

What I claim, is,

1. A belt gun rest comprising a base member provided with means for engaging a belt, a spacing rod hingedly connected to said base member, a rest bar attached to said spacing rod, and a flexible gun rest connected to said spacing rod and bendable on said rest bar.

2. A'belt gun rest comprising a base member providedwith means for engaging a belt, an adjustable spacing rod hingedly connected to said base member, a rest bar on said spacing rod, and a flexible gun rest connected to said spacing rod and bendable on said rest bar and provided with a hand rest.

3. A belt gun rest comprising a base ineni ber provided with means for engaging a belt, an adjustable spacing rod hingedly con nected to said base member, means for brac ing said spacing rod laterally, a rest bar mounted on said spacing rod, and a flexible gun rest connected to said spacing, rod and supported on said rest bar.

4:. A gun rest comprising a base member provided With means for engaging a belt, an extensible spacing rod, means "tor liingedly connecting said rod to said base member, a

gun rest extending longitudinally under the gun to be supported and made of bendable material, and a rod connecting said, rest to said spacing rod and serving as a-pivotal bearing for permitting a vertical bending of said rest.- 7 V i 5. A belt gun rest comprising a base member provided with means for engaging a belt, a spacing'rod hingedly connected to said base member, a gun rest of bendable material, and means for liingedly connecting said gun restto said spacing rod consisting of a tube screwed on the end of said spacing rod at right angles thereto and riveted to said gun rest and serving as a pivotal bearing for permitting a bending of said rest.

6. A belt gnnrest comprising-a base ineniber provided with means for engaging a belt, a spacing rod hingedly connected to said base member, a gun rest, a tube screwed on the end of said rod and riveted to said rest, and a hand rest consisting of an extension of the gun rest bent about said rod below the connection of said rest with said rod. f

7. A belt gun rest comprising a base member provided with means for engaging a belt, a foldable spacing rod liingeclly connected to said base member, a rest bar screwed on the end of said rod, and a flexible gun rest connected to said spacing rod and bendable vertically on said rest bar.
