HIRAM J. WHITE, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND A. B. HILL, OF SAME PLACE.

IMPROVEMENT IN CAPS AND SPOONS FOR MUSTARD-BOTTLES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,844, dated August 12, 1873; application filed April 5, 1873.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, HIRAM J. WHITE, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improve- I ments in Gaps and Spoons for Mustard-Bottles, of which the following is a specification:

Figure 1 is a view of mustard-bottle with cap and spoon; Fig. 2, sectional view of cap and spoon, showing mode of fastening; Fig.

3, view of spoon.

he cap a is made of glass or any other hard material; is fitted closely in or on the mouth Its upper so that when the spoon c, Fig. 3, is forced into the circular cavity 1), Fig. 2, the tension of the metal will keep itin its place firm enough for ordinary use.

In case of accident the spoon can be readily removed and another set in.

The improvement consists in the devices for excluding the air.-from the bottle, thus preventing the evaporation of the mustard. This cannot be done with the caps now in use. The enamel on the spoon is impervious to the action of the mustard.

What I claim is The combination, with the cap a of a mustard-bottle, &c., of a spoon, 0, having the spring I, substantially as shown and described.

HIRAM J. WHITE.
