To all whom 2'25 may concern lie it known that I, JOHN Saonnn, a citi- Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park, London, England, have invented an Improved Hair Comb, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a novel construction of comb particularly suit-able for rei'i'ioving nits from the hair of persons heads, and from the hair of animals, such as dogs.

Combs for this purpose are usually made of flexible material such as celluloid, bone and the like and possess the disadvantage that when in use the teeth yield and allow the nits to pass between them.

The object of my invention is to overcome this disadvantage and to this end I construct a comb of a practically rigid or non-tier;- ible material such as metal with very line divisions between the teeth and as it is difiicult to manufacture such a comb on account of the close spacing of the teeth I form the latter separate and secure them together or to a back or handle.

In a suitable arrangement for carrying out the invention each tooth is provided with holes for the reception of pins or bolts for securing the teeth together or in a back or pieces or washers alternately between them,

these distance pieces then providing the necessary spacing between the teeth In a further modification I make use of strips formed with teeth at either end, the so-called backs being then provided in the middle and being connected together in any of the Ways above desrribed. By these means two combs of different meshmay be] provided in one and the same appliance.

In a modified construction according. to the invention the strips of metal or other material forming the teeth are reduced in thickness at the tech end as compared with what may be termed the back portion, so that, when the said strips are assembled to form the comb, the necessary space is left between the teeth. Referring firstto the construction of comb illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, a indicates the strips constituting the teeth and b the two end plates or strips. 0 indicates a pair of pins or bolts which are passed through holes formed in each of the strips 41!. and the plates Z). Figure 8 shows the modification of the comb in which the individual strips a are re duced in thickness at the tooth end as compared with the back portion, the latter being I advantageously thicker than the said tooth end at the parts embracing the bolts 0. This arrangement enables the washers d to bedispensed with.

In Figures 4 and 5 I have indicated a modification of the arrangement illustrated in Figure 3, in which modification. the strips a are formed with back portions f which are soldered togetherand additionally secured. in place by means of the. transverse pins or rivets g.

In the drawings single combs only are shown, but double combs may be made by forming the strips (1 with teeth at both ends and extending the end plates 6 to correspond therewith. This arrangement is illustrated by dotted lines at h Figures 1 and 2.

As Will be understood, combs made according to the invention possess certain advantages, since the Whole of the comb is composed ofan easily cleansable and un breakable material such as metal, and in those, forms in which the teeth are not solderedtogether the parts can be easily separated so as to render the cleansing operation thorough and .eflicient.

Claims:

1. A hair comb constructed of n'on-fiexible material, comprising teeth, provided portion comprising the teeth, to secure a firm grip by the hand of the user.

2. A hair comb constructed of non-flexible material, comprising teeth, the upper ends of which are thickened to space them apart When secured together, each of said teeth being provided With a plurality of appertures, one of said apertures being at the lower extremity of the thickened portion, and the other at the upper extremity of said thickened portion pins adapted to be passed through said apertures for securing said teeth together. 7 4 3. A hair comb as claimed in claim 2, in Which the thickened portions at the upper ends of the teeth, form a handle which is substantially rectangular in shape, to permit a firm grip by the user.
