PUMP.
APPLICATION FILE D MAR. 7, I922 1,426,206, Patented Aug. 15, 1922.,
GUNNAR FREDBIK LYBECK, OF GOTTENBORG, SWEDEN.
PUMP.
To all w 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, GUNNAR Fnnnnm LYBECK, a subject of the King of Sweden, residing at Gottenborg, in the county of Gottenborg and Bohus and Kingdom of Sweden, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pumps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention refers to pumps and especially to centrifugal pumps with'automatic working engines.
In such a pump, which is drawing water out of a well or the like, it may occur, in case the water int-he well should be running short, that the suction pipe will suck in air. It also happens that the suction pipe is choked by impurities, hydrophytes, etc, or that an air leak will arise on the same, whereby it looses its suctionpower. Under such circumstances the pump cannot again operate to take water, before the fault is relieved, and the pump and also the suction pipe are again filled with water. When thus there is no new water coming through the suction pipe, the water being in the pumpwill be stagnant,'and also the pump will be heated through the rotation of the wheel. If such a mishap occurs and the suction pipe should not be immediately observed the continuous running of the motor and pump will so increase the temperature of the different parts of the motor or pump to cause damage thereto. Also the bearings may run hot, which in its turncauses extensive damages in the machinery.
The object of this invention therefore is to provide an arrangement to prevent that the'temperature of the pump from'rising to such a degree that damages can arise in consequense thereof. p
The principal of one modification of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, where 1 indicates an electric motor driving a centrifugal pump 2. On this pump 2 or on a member being in connection with the same by means of a conductor of heat there is applied a melting body 6, made of a mass or alloying of'metals nieltableat a certain degree of heat, and preferably of such a material, that the body 6 will melt down already at a temperature, which does not damage the pump. The body 6 is connected by means of a Wire rope 7 with one Specification of Letters Patent. Patented A 0; 15 Application filed March 7, 1922.

of the arms of a doublearmed level 8 turn able arounda pin 9. The other arm of the means of a springlO against the handle at of a currentiencies above mentioned will occur. is run ning in such temperature that the body 6 melts,.the wire 7 looses its fastening in the puap, and the spring 10 forces the' lever 41 out of its position, 7
8v to press the" handle whereby the current-circuit will be broken, and the motor and the, pump are stopped.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In an apparatus of the character de scribed, the combination with a circuit; breaker, and,,.an electrically driven devicev capable of becoming overheated on con- J[111110119OPQEBJZIOH, of'a melting body for application on the and means associated with the circuit breaker and operably connected with the body for.
breaking the circuit upon the melting of the body. i y 7 2. A device as claimed in claim 1, wherein themeans includes an automatically operated lever for actuating'the circuit breaker and a normally tautbre'aker connected with body. I y
.3. In a device of the character described, in combination a pump, an electric motor for driving' the pump, circuit breaker, a melting body applied to the pump and adapted to be heated by the water enclosed in the. pump,- means associated with the cir-' cuit breaker and operably connected with the melting body for breaking the circuit upon themelting of the body, v
' at. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein the means includesa pivotally mounted lever in proximity tothe circuit breaker, an f 100'. I
actuating'spring connected with the flever electrically driven device,f
and a flexible connection secured tothe lever and the melting body, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
In testimony whereof I have affixed my.
signature.
