CHARLES M. FEIS'I', OF SIOUX CITY, IOWA.
COMBINED HOLDER, INDICATING, AND ADVERTISING MEANS.
Application filed December 6, 1921. Serial No. 520,434.
- I '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLns M. FEIST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combined Holder, Indieating, andAdverti'sing Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined bot-. tle holder, indicator and advertisin means, and has been particularly devised or holdin milk bottles or analogous enclosures.
The primary object of the invention 1s to I provide a holder having frictional means to engage different parts of the upper extremity of a milk bottle or other enclosure, such as a cam-and todispose, adjacent to the point of engagement of the holder with the bottle or analogous enclosure a holder having means for positively retaining and suspending the bottle, can or enclosure in an elevated position and within easy reaching d1stance.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation partially in section of the improved combined holder, indicator and advertising device, showing a milkbottle applied thereto and the upper neck rim illustrated in section;
Fig. 2s a transverse section on the line 2--2, Fig. 1, of the improved combined holder, indicator and advertising means, showing a portion of a milk bottle in position therein in dotted lines;
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of theimproved holder with the advertising and part of the indicating means removed therefrom.
The numeral 5 designates the body of the holder which has a closed top 6 and opposite closed sides 7 with their inner ends bent 20 applied thereto.
inwardly and upwardly to form retaining flanges 8 and to provide an open bottom 9. The front endof the body is fully open as at 10, see Fig. 2, and the material of which the body is formed is continued and rebent at the rear, as at 11, to provide an upstandlng clip 12 comprising an intermediate tongue 13 and opposite side guards 14. The
rear end of the body is also formed with outstanding rightangular ears 15 with openings 16 therein to serve as means for attaching the improved holder at any suitable elevation on a door frame or other supporting means adjacent to a door and on the outside of the latter, or at any point within a room or other enclosure where it may be desired to apply the improved device. On the face of the tongue 13 a plurality of index hands,
17 are secured by a single pivot device 18, which may consist of a rivet suitably headed over at opposite ends relatively to the index hands and the rear side of the tongue, as
shown by Fig. 2. The closed top 6 of the body is dished or concaved, as at 19, to form a tray or receptacle for holding coins or tickets, the tray also serving as a part of the retaining means for the bottle, can, or other device, when inserted in the holder in a.
manner'which will be presently explained.
In additionto the foregoing features, the improved device also includes an advertising card or medium 20 which is removably inserted between the tongue 13 and the side guards 14:, which'rise above the top 6 of the body 5. The card is removably inserted between the tongue and guards and maybe of any suitable dimensions andalso may have as a heading a dairy name and below advertising matter relating to various lines of business that may interest a housekeeper. In addition to the advertising matter,-the card or medium 20 also has a part of the indicatin means thereon in the form of the kind-0% cream and quantity of milk, as at 21 and 22, these indicating features being so' spaced on the card as to be fully exposed on opposite sides of the tongue for cooperation therewith of the index hands 17.
' In applying the improved device, it is secured through the medium of the ears 15 at the desired elevation and either outside of a building or within a room and the card For use with milk bottles, the holder may havean empty bottle inserted therein, to be replaced by a full bottle as unde s ood in he p esent practice Q I 4 1,436,583 A of exchanging bottles,-and the index hand may be .set to indicate the quantity of milk and the kind of cream that may be desired to be served. The dispenser of the milk and cream will readily perceive the service desired and replace the empty bottle with a filled bottle in accordance with the indications of the index hand with reference to sheet metal of the matter'appearing on the card. In this connection it should be understood that the body 5 of the holder may be made'as long or as short as desired, and in some instances adapted to hold more than one bottle, the dimensions being simply a matter of choice and not in the least affecting-the character of the invention. Whenthe bottle or other device is inserted in the body 5, the flanges 8 frictionally bind against opposite portionsof the upper extremlty of the bottle, can, or other device, and in case of a bottle, the
tray 19 will also set up a frictional binding action on the mouth or the upper inlet end thereof, and thereby retain the bottle with positive firmness within the body of the holder. To accomplish this frictional engagement, it will be understood that the holder body 5 together with the remaining parts thereof will be'preferably formed of suitable thickness and having a certain amount of inherent resiliency.
The improved device may be very cheaply manufactured'andwill be found exceptionally convenient in its service.
What is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the class'specified, comprising a body closed at the top, sides and I back and open at the front end and bottom,
the sides being continued inwardly and upwardly at eonver 'ng angles towards the closed top of the ody to provide resilient holding flanges," the back of the body being rebent and extended upwardly and provided with means for holding an indicia-bearing card, and index devices movably .attached to the said back for cooperation with the indicia borne by said card.
2. A device of theclass specified, comprising a bodyclosed at the top, sides an back and open at the front end and bottom portion thereof, the sides of the body being continued inwardly and upwardly at part of the body, the back of the body being extended upwardly above the top and formed'with holding means, and an adver tising card removably held in upright position in thesaid holding means.
4. A device of the class specified, comprising a body having a closed top and depending sides and an open front end and. bottom, the sides of the body being provided with lnwardly and upwardly converging resilient flanges to engage the container, the back of the body being continued above the closed top of the latter and formed with an intermediate spring tongue and opposite side guards, and an advertising card removably nserted between the said tongue and side guards.
5. A holder for bottles or other containers, comprising a body having a rear upstanding support provided with movable index devlces applied at the center thereof, and an advertising card removably mounted in the support and having matter designating the kind and quantity of thebottle or other container to be applied to the holder, the
said designating matter being disposed on opposite sides of the point of application of the index devices and the latter movable to various positions relatively. to the designating matter and also vertically.
6. holder for removably receiv1ng a bottle or other container, comprlsing a body having a rear upstanding support carrying index devices adjustable to project towards and beyond opposite sides of the support and also vertically relatively to the latter, and a designating medium removably mounted in the. support and in part provided with matter relating to the kind and quantity of the contents of the bottle or'other container inserted in the holder, said matter being disposed at opposite sides of the support for cooperation with the index devices.
7. A device of the class specified, comprising a'body adapted to be secured 1n elevated position and having an open bottom front wardly toform resilient retaining flanges extending longitudinally-of the body and the top being depressed to form a tray and an auxiliary holding means, the rear portion ofend and-closed sides, top and rear end, the (1 sides being contmued inwardly and up-I the. body having upstanding supporting means for an indicating means, and index devices carried by said upstanding support-- ing means for cooperation'with said indicating means. i
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two'subscribing witnesses.
