PUNCHED LOOSE-LEAF SHEET.
dpplicationfiled May 2, 1921. Serial No. 466,273.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, Ensorr S. Pn'r'ris, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Goldfield, in the county of Fismeralda and State of Nevada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Punched Loose-Leaf Sheets, of which the following is a specification.
a My invention relatesto a relatively large sheet of paper punched with holes, which can be folded and inserted into a small size loose leaf holder.
The main object of my invention is a sheet of paper punched with small holes and folded in such a manner that when filed in a small loose leaf holder it can be unfolded without detaching from said holder. It is often desirable to file a large sheet of printed matter in a smaller loose leaf holder, which sheet can be opened to its full size without detaching from the rings of the holder.
In the accompanying drawings 1 have shown an oblong sheet of paper punched and folded accordingly. 1
. Figure 1 represents the full size sheet punched with holes.
Fig. 2, the sheet folded once, first fold or horizontal fold.
Fig. 3, the sheet folded twice, second fold or vertical fold.
Fig. 4, the sheet inserted in the holder, with double fold.
Fig. 5, the sheet inserted in the holder, with single fold.
Fig. 6, the sheet inserted in the holder,
completely unfolded.
Referring to Fig. 1, S represents a sheet of paper. The first fold occurring at the dotted line C-C is the horizontal fold as shown in Fig. 2. The second fold occurring at the dotted line D-D Fig. 1 or 2 is the vertical fold as shown in Fig. 3.
The first horizontal fold divides the sheet into a lower half and an upper half. The second vertical fold divides each lower and upper half. Hence the oblong sheet is divided into four sections shown in Fig. 1,.
as A A B and B. One crosswise fold l-C and one lengthwise fold D-D Fig. 1. The lower half represented as A and A= Fig. 1, is punched with double holes 3 crosswise of the vertical fold, or a pair of holes one on either side of the lengthwise vertical fold D-D. The pairs of holes 3 are spaced vertically and of the size for in sertion into a loose leaf ring holder or book indicated as H Figs. 4:, 5 and 6. The sheet is folded as in Fig. 3 when inserted in the holder H Fig. 4:. a The double holes punched in the sections A and A one on each side of the lengthwise vertical fold D--D, are positioned so that they come opposite each other when the sheet is folded as in Fig. 3.
The upper half of the sheet S represented as B and B in Fig. 1 is punched with slotted holes 1 Fig. 1, crosswise of the ver-q .tical fold DD. The slotted holes 4: are
spaced and of the size to correspond with the double holes in A and A, coming directly over holes 3 Fig. 1 when folded at C-b Fig. 1, more clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The sheet S when double folded as in Fig. 3 is inserted into the ring holder H as shown in Fig. 4, and unfolded once asin Fig. 5, and twice as in Fig. 6 or completely unfolded.
When the sheet S Fig. 1 is folded as in Fig. 3 and inserted into the holder H, the rings 5 Fig. 4 pass thru the double holes 8, while the slotted holes 1 straddle the rings as more clearly shown in Fig. 5. This permits unfolding and folding the sheet without detaching from the rings and enables closing the covers of the holder without injury to the sheet. Numerous sheets can be inserted into the holder and unfolded and folded likewise.
The vertical lengthwise fold may be at one side or the other of the sheet and not necessarily thru the center, with holes positioned accordingly. And likewise the horizontal fold.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. A sheet for printing thereon, having double holes in one section of said sheet and a slotted hole in another part of said sheet so that when the sheet is folded the slotted hole comes opposite the double holes, for the purpose substantially as described.
2. A sheet for printing thereon having double holes in one section of said sheet and a slotted hole in another section of said sheet so that when the sheet is folded to form two leaves, the slotted hole coincides with the double holes, for the purpose substantially as described.
3. A separable book-section, comprising a sheet folded to form two layers, one layer having double hole perforations coinciding with a slotted perforation in the other layer for the purpose substantially as described.
4. A separable book-section, comprising a sheet folded to form two layers, one layer having double hole perforations coinciding with a slotted perforation in the other layer, the intersection of the perforations being at right angle or crosswise of the fold.
5. A separable booksection, comprising a sheet composed of relatively thin paper fol ded to form two layers or leaves, one leaf hav-- ing double hole perforations and theother lea-f having slotted perforations, the double holes of one leaf coinciding with the slots of the other leaf and said perforations extending" crosswise of the leaves in relation to the fold. p
6. A separable book-section,comprising a sheet composed of relatively thin paper folded to form two layers or leaves, one leaf having double hole perforations and the other leaf ha ing slotted perforations. the double holes of one leaf coincidingwith the slots of the other leaf and said pertoratioi'is extending at right angle to the fold. crosswise of the sheet.
'7. A separable book-section. comprising a sheet folded twice. the first fold forming two layers or leaves. one leaf ha ring double hole {)elfOliLfiOllS and the other teat having slotted perforations coinciding with the double holes of the other leaf and said per-- forations extending crosswise of the tirsi' fold, the second fold occnring between the double holes so that the sheet can be inse ted into a loose leaf holder and in'i'tolded in its entirety without detaching from the holder.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
