earner ILOIRJEJQ'ZO IE. MA'US, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SLICER.
Application filed July 24, 1922. Serial No. 577,167.
T 0 all whomz't may concern j Be it known-that l, Lonn'Nzo F. Mans, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Slicers, of whichthe following is a specification.
.This inventionrelates to improvements in slicers foriice cream, butter andthe like.
The main object of this invent-ion is to provide an improved slicer which permits the rapid slicing into regular portions or sections ofmaterial such as bricks of ice cream, the slices or sections'being clean-cut with a minimum of handling of the material.
A further object is to provide an improved slicer which may be readily cleansed and sterilized.
Objects pertaining to details and economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined-and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of the invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Fig. I is a perspective view of my improved slicer, the knife being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 11 is a vertical transverse section on a line corresponding to line 22 of Fig. I.
Fig. III is a perspective view of the sliced block of material ejected from the holder.
In the drawing the sectional view is taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section line and similar numerals of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing, I provide a rectangular holder 1 which is open at the top and bottom and preferably provided with flanges 2 at the bottom of its end and side walls, these flanges providing finger pieces, the advantage of which will appear later.
The side and end walls have vertical slots 3 therein, the slots being spaced so that the blade 4 of the knife is guided thereby. The
slots adjacent one end and one side are spaced from such end and side a greater distance than the space between the remaining sides, leaving the wider sections 5 and 6 so that the material may slide laterally or expand laterally as the kn fe passes downwardly through it. The block of material is pushed over into the corner 7 when placed. in the holder ready for the slicing operation.
A positioning block 8 is secured to a sup port or table 9, the block being adapted to loosely fit the holder so that the holder may be arranged over the block. The bottom 10 is a loose fit within the holder, the bottom resting upon the block and the material to be sliced resting upon the bottom.
The bottom 10 projects above the bottoms ll of the slots so that the bottom constitutes a slicing or cutting block preventing the duliing of the knife by contact with the bottoms of the slots.
After the material has been sliced by passing the knife downwardly therethrough guided by each of the slots, the holder is lifted from the positioning block and the sliced material ejected by pushing the bottom 10 through the holder, the material be ing discharged in an assembled relation as illustrated in Fi HI from which it may he transferred to point of service, or to the coaters, in the event it is desired to coat tht same as with a chocolate coating. The d vice is especially we 1 adapted for this purpose. V
The flanges 2 constitute convenient finger pieces for grasping the holder when ejecting the sliced materia the holder being grasped with the fingers and the bottom being pushed through with the thumbs.
The parts are simple and economical to produce and may be easily washed and sterilized. A large amount of material, such as ice cream, may be effectively sliced.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a rectangular holder open at top and bottom, the side and end walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, the slots adjacent one side and end being spaced from such side and end a greater distance than the space between the remaining slots permitting the lateral movement of the material as it is sliced, a positioning block adapted to be mounted upon a table or support to receive said holder, and a bottom loosely fitting within said holder and adapted to rest upon said positioning block in which position it projects above the lower ends of the slots and constitutes a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material.
2. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a rectangular holder open at top and bottom, the side and end walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, a positioning block adapted to be mounted upon a table or support to receive said holder, and a bottom loosely fitting within said holder and adapted to rest upon said positioning block in which position it projects above the lower ends of the slots and constitutes a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material.
3. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a rectangular holder open. at top and bottom and provided with laterally projecting flanges at the bottom constituting finger pieces, the side and end walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, a positioning block adapted to be mounted upon a table or support to receive said holder, and a bottom loosely fitting within said holder and adapted to rest upon said positioning block in which position it projects above the lower ends of the slots and constitutes a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material.
l. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a rectangular holder open at top and bottom, the side and end walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, the slots adjacent one side and one end being spaced from such side and end a greater distance than the space between the remaining slots permitting the lateral movement of the material as 1t 15 said holder constituting a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material.
5. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a holder open at top and bottom, the walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife Hiding slots therein, and a bottom loosely tting within said holder and constituting a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material. i j
6. In a structure of the class described, the combination of a holder open at top and bottom and provided with laterally projecting flanges at the bottom constituting finger pieces, the walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, and a bottom loosely fitting within said holder and constituting a slicing block, said bottom being also adapted as an ejector for the sliced material.
7. Ina structure of the class described, the combination of a rectangular holder open at top and bottom, the side and end walls of said holder having opposed vertical knife guiding slots therein, the slots adjacent one side and one end being spaced from such side and end a greater distance than the space between the remaining slots permitting the lateral movement of the material as it is sliced. I
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
