Application filed March 18, 1922. Serial No. 544,857.
Be it known that. I, ORRIN WLCROSSLEY,
citizen of the United States, residing at Oklahoma City, in the county of Oklahoma and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cookers, of which the following is a specifi I -cooker maybe clampedand locked upon the ring for r flan e 13 is provided cooker body at one operation.
And the invention has as a still further ob- -ect to provide a cooker wherein the cover will be held by a single clamping ring acting to bind the cover substantially throughout its circumference upon the cooker body so that leakage will 1%; eliminated and wherein the ring will-be so constructed that said ring. may be readily applied or removed.
Other and incidental objects will appear hereinafter.
In the drawings:
'Figure 1 is a perspective view of my im-' proved cooker.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device, parts being broken away and shown in section- Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view on the line 3-3'of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows, and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the planner in which the clamping the cover of. the cooker is removed.
In carrying .the invention into eflect, I employ a cooker bgdy 10 provided atits upper end withan overhanging rim llhaving flat upper and lower faces. Bemovably fitting upon the cooker body is a cover 12. beveled tosnuglylfit within the body and provided at its periphery with a radial annular flange 13 overhanging the rim 11 of the body terminating flush therewith. The with a flat bottom face con exiting the flat upper face of the rim while at its-upper side said flange with marinar beveled face 14. Threaded intoa eentral pening in the cover is a bush-- ing 15 'to-accommodate a gage, as conven- :tionallyillustrated at 16. The cover is also with the customary fittings 17 is formed I Removably securing the cover .upon the,
cooker body is a clamping ring 19. As best shown in- Figures 1 and 2, this ring is formed of a plurality of segmental sections pivotally connected at theirends byhinge plates or ,links 20 secured to the upper and lower sides of the ring and, as will now be observed, the ring is channel shaped'in cross section to embrace the rim 11 and flange 13' of the cooker bodylO and cover 12, being provided with a bottom flange 21 to extend beneath the rim 11 and a top flange 22 to overlie the flange 13. As brought out in Figure 3, the ange 21 of articularly the ringis provided with a flat inner facev to coact with the flat lower face of the rim while the flange 22 of the. ring is provided against the beveled face 14 of the flange of the cover. Mounted upon the ring at one with a beveled inner face 23 to seat flat end thereofis an ear iron 24 having spaced cars 25. and mounted to swing between said ears is a longitudinally curved lever 26. At
its inner end the lever is formed with spaced lugs 27 fitting between the ears of said ear iron and extending through said lugs and ears are suitable pivot pins 28 swmgingly' supporting the lever. Freely received at one end between the lugs 27 of the lever is a bolt 29 pivotally connected at its adjacent end to said lugs and adjustable upon the bolt is a nut 30. Mounted upon the clamping ring l9 at its opposite extremity is an ear iron 31 havin spaced upstanding ears 32 adapted to free y accommodate the bolt 29 therebetween.
As will now be readily understood in 7 view of the preceding desc iption, the cover 12 may be applied when t e clamping ring 19 may, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, be arranged about the cooker bod to engage beneath the rim 11 thereof over angin cover. The bolt 29 is' then positione between the ears of the ear iron 31 .when, by rocking the lever 26 inwardly, the nut 30 will be caused to coact with said ears for contracting the ring about the cover the lever being. movable, .as shown in Figure 2, to" a position locking the ring contracted; As the ring is-contracted, the beveled Y face 23' of 22- of said ring will be caused to the flange the coact with the beveled face 14 of the flan e 13 of the cover for tightly clamping t e cover upon the cooker body and, as will be,
perceived, theiring will act u on the flange of theqcover substantially t ughout the circumference thereof so that leakage cannot lar flange with a'bveled upper face and -a occur. The nut, 30 upon the bolt 29 of the lower face adapted to conform. with the lever provides, 1 of course, means whereby upper face of 'said rim, a channelled ring the tension uponthe ring, when contracted, constructed in four sections, each of said secmaybe varied. To remove the cover, the tions having upper and lower annular ledges 35 lever 26 is swung outwardly and the b01929 with their inner faces shaped to correspond disengaged from the ear iron 31' when the respectively with the beveled upper 'face of clam ing ring maybe freed and-to facilisaid flange and the lower face of said rim, tate isengagement of the ring, I preferably and a cylindrical wall rigidly connecting said provide a book 33. As shown in detail in two, ledges and being integral therewith, 40
Figure 4, the hook is engaged beneath the links on top and bottom of said ledges refree ends of the sections of the ring succes- 'spectively and having pivotal connection sively when, by rocking the hook against with the adjacent ends of some of said-secthe rim 11-of the cooker body, the ring sections, and adjustable means for connecting 15 tions may be readily pried out of en agethe free ends of two of said sections; said 4 'lnent with the cover and rim. It wi acmeans includ ng brackets secured at said-free cordingly be, seen that I provide a cooker ends of the ring sections, ears on said brackwherein the .troubleincident to applyingor ets, a lever pivoted between theears of one removing the cover of the device will be re of said brackets to swing inthe plane of the -duced toa minimum while, at the same time, ring, a pivot pin on said lever and a. bolt 50 the cover may be firmly clamped in'place to pivoted thereon, and-a nut threaded on said form a sealed joint between the cover and the bolt and adapted to engage with the ears on cooker body. e said other, bracket, whereby upon swinging.
Having thus described the invention, what said lever against the ring, the latter 'wil isclaimed as new is: be contracted to eifect a sealed jointbetween 55 I The combination of a cooker body prothe body and the cover.
