To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMON A. JARosLAwsxi-Fonn'r, a citizen of Poland, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cosmetic Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to cosmetic holders and has particular reference to a holder for lip sticks, eyebrow pencils, or other similar cosmetics in stick form.

The invention contemplates for one of its objects the provision of a cosmetic stick holder which affords means for conveniently housing a cosmetic stick whereby to permit of intermittent use of the same.

As a further object the invention contemplates a cosmetic stick holder which includes means for advancing and exposing one end of the cosmetic stick for use, with which means the cover of the holder coacts when associated with the body of the holder whereby the end of the stick is automatically retracted within its housing member.

As a still further object the invention provides a cosmetic stick holder which is capable of refilling in order to renew the cosmetic stick.

As a still further object the invention contemplates a cosmetic stick holder which is extremely simple in its construction and mode of operation, which is highly attractive and ornamental in its appearance, which is inexpensive to manufacture and produce, and which is highly efiicient in its purpose. f

With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth inthe following specific-ation, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accom panying drawings, it being understood thatthe right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are expressed. t

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the holder includes a body 10 which is of tubular formation and is closed at one end by an end wall or bottom 11 preferably formed integral therewith, the opposite end being open. A sleeve 12 of considerably greater length than the body is positioned within the same with one end thereof protruding from the open end of the body. The sleeve 12 is of a smaller cross sectional size than the body 10 and of a similar configuration thereto and is centrally spaced in the body 10 to alford between the inner surface of the walls of the body and the outer surface of the walls of the sleeve a clearance space. The sleeve 12 is secured to the body with its lower end in contact with the end wall or bottom of the body whereby said parts are retained against relative longitudinal movement. Any desired means of securement may be employed, but as illustrated in the present case a short pin 13 is employed which extends through an opening 14 in one of the side walls of the body and into an aligned opening 15 in the sleeve, said openings being disposed adjacent the end or bottom wall 11. A follower member is' provided which consists of an inner sleeve section 16 and an outer sleeve section 17, the former being of a cross sectional configuration and size to snugly telescope within the sleeve 12 and the latter being of an appropriate size and configuration to snugly telescope within the space defined between the sleeve 12 and the body 10. The sleeve sections 16 and 17 are connected to each other by a transverse pin 18 protruding through aligned apertures 19 and 2O in the sleeve sections 16 and 17 adjacentthe lower ends of said sleeves. The upper end of the outer sleeve section 17 of the follower member is provided with a marginal outwardly projecting flange 21 which extends an appreciable distance beyond the outer faces of the walls of the body 10 to afford a convenient means for gripping the flange to manipulate or slide the follower member. 1

In order to afford a passage for the pin 18 to permit of the sliding of the follower member the sleeve 12 is provided with a longitudinal slot 22 extending from its lower end upwardly a sufficient distance to allow the follower member to move a sufficient distance to project its upper end to a point adjacentthe upper end of the sleeve 12. It will be further noted that the outer sleeve section 17 is provided with a notch or slot 23 to afford a clearance at its lower end for thev pin 13. The inner sleeve section 16 of the follower member is provided with an interior stop bead or strip 211 adjacenty its upper end, the purpose of whichv will be hereinafter described. A cover member 25 is provided whichr is of tubular formation and is provided with an end or top wall 26 closing the upper end while the lower end is open. The cover member 25 is of a cross sectional shape'and size to snugly fit over the sleeve12 when telescoped thereov'er.

In use and operation of the device, the cosmetic stick is of a cross sectional shape to `snugly fit within the upper end of the inner sleeve section 16, the lower end thereof resting upon the bead or strip 24 and the same is of an appropriate length that its upper vend will be disposed wholly within the upper end of the sleeve 12 when thefollower member is retracted to the full extent within the body 10. When it is desired to use the stick, the cover 25 is first removed and the flange 21 is grasped by the lingers to facilitate upward relative movement of the follower member whereby the upper end of the stick will be slightly projected beyond the upper edge of the sleeve 12 to expose a portion of the stick for use. After the stick is used, the cover is telescopically applied `Lto' the end of the sleeve 12 andl by pressing downwardly thereon the lower open end of the cover will engage the flange 21 and force the follower member downwardly to its fully retracted position,'thereby retracting or withdrawing the exposed end of the stick or pencil into the sleeve 12. This obviates the necessity of having to grasp the flange 21 and 'retracting the pencil or stick prior tothe application of the cover and eliminates any possibility of contact of the end wall 26 with the tip or exposed end ofthe stick 'er pencil for the reason that the cover automatically effects the retraction of the stick upon the application of the cover to the sleeve.

I claim:

l. A holder for a cosmetic stick or pencil, comprising a tubular body having a closed lower end and an open upper end, a sleeve within said body having its walls spaced: from the inner surface of the walls of the body and extending from the closed lower end through .the body and projecting from the open end, a follower member consisting of inner and outer tubular sections tting respectively around the sleeve and within the sleeve and' adapted to receive within the inner section at the upper end the cosmetic stick or pencil, said follower member being longitudinally movable with respect to the body and sleeve for the purpose of projecting or retracting the free end of the pencil or stick for exposing the same from the end of the sleeve, anda cover having a closed end and an open end adapted for telescopic association with the vexposed portion of the sleeve, said cover being adapted to "coact with the outer section of the follower member for autimatically retracting the ex- 1 posed end of the pencil upon application of the cover.
