PATENT OFFICE.
CLARENCELANTRIP, or Forma, ARKANSAS. l
BASKET-BALL GOAL.
Application led March 22, 1923. Serial No. 626,727.r l
To all 'whom t may concer/n.' y
Be it known that CLARENCE LANrIuP, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fouke, in the county of Miller and State 6 of Arkansas, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Basket-Ball Goals,
. of which the following is a specification.
p My invention relates to improvements in basket thereof isto substantially improve over similar devices with which I am now I familiar.
A further purpose of my invention is the provisionof such a basket ball goal which is comparatively simple of construction, extremelyy inexpensive to manufacture and of such a nature as to be readily removed or applied to its -supporting standard.k The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood 4when the following detailed descrlption is 'read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as 25. claimed. l
In the plication, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein:
Figure` 1 is a side elevation of my improved goal applied to the usual goal supporting structure;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereo Figure 3 is a perspective of one of the supporting arms; and
Figure 4: is a top plan view of the goal. `Referring to the drawings in detail, .5 designates the usual supporting standard and 6 the board, it being understood that these elements do not comprise my invention as the same are found in practically all basket ball courts and are shown for permitting my' improved goal to be more ade. quately disclosed. A l
My invention per Yse embodies a basket ball goals and the main purposek drawings forming part of this ap` carrying member designated in general by the numeral 7. This supporting member is formed from a single length of metal, the same being bent to provide a relatively' large wing 8, a web 9 and bracket members 10, the bracket members being secured as at 11 torthe said board (3.
12' of. netting is secured. in a well known manner to this ring Sand does not comprise any portion of my invention.
Between the *oppositel sides of the ring: 8 and at a point adjacent the lower end of the board 6 are ring supporting arms 1?),
the lower ends thereof being bent at an angle 14 for face to face contact with the saidv board 6 and adapted to be secured thereto as at 15. The upper ends of the arms -13) are twisted at right angles as at 16 and are riveted or otherwise secured as at 17 to the said basket supporting ring l8.
In view of the above description it will be at once understood that I have provided a highly improved form of basket ball goal and one which embodies all of the characteristics of simplicity and rigidness oi construction and inexpensiveness of manufacture.
'lhe usual basket f Although I have'herein shown and ydescribed the present embodiment of the present invention', it is nevertheless to be understood that .minor changes may jbe therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having y thus described my invention, what I claim as new and'desire to secure by Letters Patent is:`
madev A basket supporting device for a game i apparatus including a hoop adapted to hold a basket and terminating in parallel abutting arms, and a pair of diverging legs kextending substantially right angularly from the arms and adapted to be attached to the plane surface of a support. y l
' In testimony whereof I affix mysignature.
r CLARENCE LAN'IRIP.
