VENT-PIPE SLEEVE.
Application filed Ilay 16, 1923. Serial No. 639,286.
T o all whom t may con-cern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH IImsHs'rnIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Cleveland, county of Cuyahoga, State of Ohio, United States of America, have `invented a certain new and useful Vent-Pipe Sleeve, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the ac-` companying drawings, forming part of this specific ation. l..
My invention relates to a flashing sleeve for vent pipes or the like, which pass through roofs or other surfaces. Its object is to produce a sleeve embodying convenient and effective means for making water-tight adjustable clampingconnection between it reliable and permits the ready clampingin and a surrounding flashing or kthe waterproofing material `on the roof.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 1s La cross-sectional view showing one embodiment of my invention, and Figure 2 1s a top plan 'view` of the device illustrated inl Fi ure 1. i
y improved vent lpipe sleeve 1 surrounds the vent pipe 2, and an annular recess 3 on ythe inner wall of the sleeve forms a space Vbetween the pipe and the sleeve for the insertion of suitable `packing material.
The sleeve 1 is provided with an integral exterior flashing flange 4 over which the flashing or waterproofing material 5 may be extended. Sleeve 1 is also provided with a terminal locking flange 6, which flangehas spaced openings'Y therethrough. The flashing clamping ring 8 of annular shape and having sufficient internal diameter to pass over the terminal flange 6, bears upon the upper surface of the flashing which is clamped between it and the flashing flange 4 to form a water-tight union between the flashing and the sleeve. is provided with inwardly extending lugs 12 which cooperate with the exterior of the sleeve to properly position the opposing surfaces of the ring and flashing flange. These pass through openings 7 in the terminal flange 6 in the assembling of theparts.
Clamping pressure is applied kto the clamping ringS by means of the threaded bolts' 9 carried by locking ring 10. This The clamping ring rlocking ring is also annular, having internal diameter slightly greater than the diam,- eter of the terminal flange 6, but is provided with integral inwardly projecting lugs 11, which, while they are adapted to pass through openings 7 inthe terminal flange,
bear upon the under surface of this flange when the locking ring 1s rotated after application to the sleeve, and the clamping bolts yhave been screwed down to pressure to the ring 8. n
p As above indicated the waterproofing ma terial 5 may either be a flashing positioned in the material of the roof below the upper surface thereof,or,may be a sheet of waterproofing material'such as paper, felt or the like, which constitutes the top surface of the roof.
The arrangement described is krigid and apply clamping position of waterproofing material of' varying thicknesses. It also allows of the positioning of the clamping bolts in the position which may be most convenient in the particular installation being made. U
` Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. The combination of a pipe sleeve provided with a flashing flange and a locking flange, a clamping ring cooperating with the flashing flange, a. locking ring above the clamping ring and having portions engaging the locking flange, and clamping bolts in threaded engagement with the locking ring and bearing on the clamping` ring.
2. The combination of a pipe sleeve provided with an exterior circumferential flashing flange intermediate its `ends, a clamping ring cooperating with said flange, and means engaging the sleeve above the flashing flange for holding said ring in clamping position.
3. The combination of a pipe sleeve proopenings therethrough, a. clamping ring cotatve movement of the looking ring, und operating with the ashng Hnge, n lockudjus'tuble means extending from the locking ring rotatable with respecty to the sleeve 111g 11n g to the clamping 1 'ng to force the 1o and having inwardly projecting lugs adaptlatter 111139 Clampmg P0St10ned to pass through the openings in the lock- III testlmony whereof` I have hereunto ing flange and to be brought into opposition Set my hand and lffXGd my Seal- Wth the under surface of Suid ange by 10- JOS. HIRSHSTEIN. [11. 3.]
