IMPROVEMENT IN SlDlNG-DOGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.'155,1 [3, dated September 15, 1874; application filed July 9, 1874.

To all whom it may concern vBe it known thatI, JOHN SLAWsoN, of Haskins,in the county of Wood and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Siding-Dogs 5 and I do hereby deelare that the following is a full, clear, and exact ldescription thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, aud to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an adjustable siding-dog, to facilitate the putting on of weather-boarding on houses, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The accompanying drawing represents a side view of my siding-dog, showing its application.

A represents an upright bar of any suitable dimensions, through the lower end of which is passed a set-screw, B. C represents a block formed on,orpermanently attached to,the barA near the lower end. The upper surface of this block is atright angles with the side ofthe bar, and its outer surface is beveled. To this beveled surface is secured a broad and thin metal tooth, D, which projects above the block G for a suitable distance. Above the block C the bar A is slotted longitudinally, and through said slot is passed a screw, E, from the back into a movable block, G, which corresponds in shape with the stationary block C, and has a rib or flange, a, to enter the slot in the bar, and prevent the block from turning.

The metallic tooth D is slipped under the lower edge of the last siding-board, and by screwing in the set-screw B themovable or adjustable block Gis brought firmly against the side of the building, forming a rest-gage for the reception of the next siding-board to rest upon, ready for nailing.

The side of the bar A is graduated, as shown; and, by means of the screw E, the slide or block G may be adjusted and held at any desired point, so as to bring the lower edges of the siding-boards any desired distance apart.

In siding up a building two of these sidingdogs are required, so as to support the two ends of the board.

The set-screw B makes the device certain to be held in a proper position, regardless of the thickness, as it can be adjusted to work on any desired thickness of siding by the set-screw.

I am aware that gages have been before used for sidingdogs, and I am also aware of the patent to G. H. Smith, No. 97,452; and I do not, therefore, claim the devices therein shown and described.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The bar A, with beveled block C, in combination with the set screw B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The set-screw B at the lower end of the bar A, having beveled block C and tooth D, in

combination with the beveled sliding block Gr and set-screw E, all as and for the purpose specified.
