8 G. LYESO ILLUMINATING MEANS FOR SMOKERS APPLIANCES Filed Feb, 5, 1925 gnm'nl'oc 62201 0 .Lywa
I auotun Patented Dec. 8, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFEQE.
GEORGE LYESO, OF KINGIVIONT, WEST VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-TENTH TO MIKE HRIB, OF ROSEMONT, WEST VIRGINIA.
ILLUMINATING MEANS FOR SMOKERS APPLIANCES.
Application filed February 5, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE LYnso, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Kingmont, in the county of Marion and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Illuminating Means for Smokers Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful. improvements in illuminating means for smokers appliances.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a smokers appliance with illuminating means for permitting the user of the appliance to have unobstructed use of his hands while working in an unlighted place.
A further object of the invention is to provide novel means for mounting an electric light in the smokers appliance.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a smokers appliance with illuminating means mounted therein and electrically connected to a source of electricity,
Figure 2 is a partly elevational View and partly sectional View of the smokers appliance shown in Fig. 1 and illustrates in detail the manner of mounting the illuminating means therein,
Figure 3 is an end elevational view showing the illuminating means mounted in the appliance shown in Figs. 1 and 2,
Figure 4 is a bottom plan View of the appliance shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive and illustrates the manner of electrically connecting the illuminating means with a source of electricity, and
Figure 5 shows a modified form of illuminating means and the manner of attaching the same to a smokers appliance.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive illustrates the bowl portion of a tobacco pipe having the integral stem portion 6 suitably attached thereto and carrying the mouth piece 7. In Fig. 2 the bowl portion 5 is illustrated as having a Serial No. 7,036.
tobacco receiving cavity 5 formed therein while the stem 6 and mouth piece 7 are illus trated as having formed therein a bore or smoke passage 8.
By carefully examining Fig. 2, it will be seen that the lower solid portion 9 of the bowl 5 is provided with a cylindrically-shaped opening 10 which con'nnunicates at its inner wall with a cylindrical passage 11 which extends concentrically with the opening 10 and has threadedly mounted therein a metallic socket 12 which is formed into threads for having mounted within its bore the threaded stem 13 of the electric bulb 14. For the pur pose of closing the outer end of the opening 10, a curved lens 1 1 is embedded at its edge in the bowl 5 and is retained in place by the embedded ring 15 which is attached to the bowl by the screws 16.
For the purpose of permitting current to be passed through the lamp 14:, the solid bottom portion 9 of the bowl 5 is provided with metallic tubes 17 and 18, the tube 17 extending to the side portion of the socket 13 and the tube 18 extending to a position to be electrically engaged by the central contact 19 of the bulb stem 13.
In Figs. 1 and 3 there are shown a pair of electric wires 20 which have the pin terminals 21 at one end and the apertured terminals 22 at the remaining ends. These apertured terminals are intended to be mounted upon the binding posts 23 of an electric battery 24 and to be removably held in place by the nuts 25.
In Fig. ,5 there is shown a modified form of smokers appliance which includes the bowl portion 26 which may be formed with a pocket or recess adapted to receive loose tobacco or the end of a cigar or cigarette. This bowl 26 has a stem 27 attached thereto which carries the mouth piece 28 in the usual manner. The bowl 26 is provided with a threaded socket similar to the socket 12 shown in Fig. 2 within which is screwed the stem of the electric bulb 29 which carries the reflector 30. This figure also shows one tube 31 extending into the bowl 26 from the bottom portion of the same. It is to be understood that a pair of tubes similar to the tubes 17 and 18 shown in Figs. 2 and 4 are to be mounted in the bowl 26 so that a circuit may be established to the electric bulb 29.
It is to be understood that a person may use either of the appliances illustrated in the usual manner for smoking tobacco and While being so used, the electric bulbs mounted in the same may be supplied with electricity by the batttery 24 and wires 20. It will now be apparent that the user of either of these appliances may illuminate his work while laboring in an unlighted place, without the necessity of having to carry or hold the illuminating means in his hand.
It is to be understood that the forms of this invention herewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim 1. In a device of the type described, the combination With a smokers appliance, of a bulb socket embedded in said appliance, an electric bulb mounted in said socket, a conductor tube embedded in the appliance and contacting with said socket, and a second conductor tube embedded in the appliance and contacting the inner end of the stem of the electric bulb.
2. In a device of the type described, the combination with a smokers appliance, of a bulb socket embedded in said appliance, an electric bulb mounted in said socket, a conductor tube embedded in the appliance and contacting with said socket, a second conductor tube embedded in the appliance and contacting the inner end of the stem of the electric bulb, a battery, 9. pair of wires connected to the terminals of the battery, and a pin terminal mounted on one end of each Wire adapted to be received within and contact with said conductor tubes.
3. In a device of the type described, a pipe bowl of block formation at its lower end having a side pocket and a socket opening into the bottom of the pocket "for the reception of an electric lamp, a pair of conductor tubes embedded in the block, respectively communicating with one end and a side of the lamp base and electric wires having pin terminals received in the conductor tubes.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
GEORGE LYESO.
