To all whom it may'cmwem:

Be it known that I, Osoaa Bo'ro SGHELL- BERG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York city, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Apparatus for Use in Proetotherapy, of which thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description.

Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to-provide' a portable apparatus arranged to pro vide supports in. grouped relation of recepta'cles for flushing and mitigating materials; and to provide a system of pipingsuitably connected to said receptacles to control the flow therefrom to a point of delivery, and the return from the point of delivery .to the repository receptacle.


Figure 1 is a side view of an apparatus of the character mentioned, constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention;

As seen in the drawings, the flasks 11 and 12 are held in juxtaposed relation by a bracket frame 13, which partially surrounds the flask 12, and is securedon the uprights 14 by setscrews 15. By means of the structure employing the set screw 15, the flask 12 is ad usted optionally with relation, to the flask 11.

The flask 11 is supported b a frame embod in the uprights 14 an the ring 16. Both asks have removable covers 17, each cover being provided as seen best in Figure Application filed a... 27, 1925. Serial m. 40,046.-

7, with a spring clip 18, which extend over in holding relation to the lip 19 of either of the flasks. It will be understood that one or more clips 18 may be employed.

- The covers 17 are provided each with a filling funnel 20, a thermometer 21, and electric light 22. The light 22 is preferably of the tubular type, and serves the double function of providing light and heat within the flushing and medicating contents of'the flasks 11 and 12. 1

The flasks 11 and 12 are operatively connected with the three-way valve 23 by means of the pipes 24 and 25 respectively. The pipes 24 and 25 are preferably constructed from rubber and are connected each with one v of the branches of the U-shaped valve members 26. These members are provided with separate valves 27, and lead to the common passage 28 which connects to the valve 23 when screwed or otherwise fastened thereto. Leading from the valve 23 are pi es 29 and 30, the former, as seen best in Figure 1 of the drawings, beingconnected with a flexible applicator tube 31.. This tube and its construction and employment are best set forth in Patent No. 1,425,420, dated August 8, 1922, granted tome for improvements in medical apparatus for use in proctotherapy. By means of this tube, extremely high irrigations are performed, and applications ofmcdicament are made therethroughf The tube is also used for drainage, when the contents of the intestines is delivered through the pipe 29 to the pipe 30 and thence to a receptacle such as indicated by the numeral 32 in the drawings.

Whether the flushing fluid or the medicament shall be permitted to flow through the,

pipe 29 to the applicator tube 31, or the contents of the intestines shall flow back through the pipe 29 to the pipe 30 is regulated and controlled by the three-way valve member 33, which member is freely controlled by the operator employing for that purpose the handle 34.

A feature of-importance in the present invention is the ortability of the ap aratus, and to this end it will be noted t e ring frame 35 is provided with short extensions 36 that are socks-ted and capped to provide threads for registering with the threads of the threaded end 37 of the plug 38. The plug 38 fills and is rigidly ah tached to the hollowv tubular leg 39 of the tripod support for the flasks.

The tripod is composed oflegs each having the tubular portion 39 provided with bayonet slots 40 that holdingly engage a short-leg section 41 having at the extremity thereof a suitable caster roller 42.

From the foregoing it will be seen that when it is desired to transport the apparatus the supporting frame for the flasks may be removed from the ring frame 35, the flasks themselves being lifted from the ring 16 and frame 13 respectively. Also the frame 13 may be removed from the uprights 14by loosening the set screws 15, and the legs may be removed from the ring frame 35 by unscrewing the same from the extensions 36 thereof, and the legs may be divided into their half sections by removing the sections 41 from the legs 39. a c

When the bracket member shown in Figure 6 of the drawings is employed, the valve 23 and the members associated therewith may be disposed to rest on the bed clothes or other support if so desired, without overturning end a ring-like body 43 has a series of recesses 44 in which the various pipes 29, 30 and the extension havin the passage 28 rest. From the ring b0 y 43 is extended a series of radial arms 45 flush with the bottom of the ring and alined with the recesses 44, the ends of which are up-turned to form rests 46 that support the valve member 33 and the pipe 30. The outspread relation of the brackets 45 forms a substan tial though skeleton frame for resting the or becoming entangled. To this valve 33 and parts associated therewith thereon.

From the foregoing it will be seen that when desired the apparatus may be dissociated in parts and packed for transportation within small compass.

An apparatus as characterized comprising a plurality of 1 holding receptacle flasks; a distribution system 0 eratively connected therewith and embodying a series of flexible pipes, and a multi-ported distributing valve, and asupporting member for said valve and parts. associated therewith, said supporting member having a ring-like body with extended arms adapted to receive and hold said pipes and parts associated therewith;

2. In an apparatus as characterized having a plurality of receptacles and a, distribution system operatively connected therewith embodying a series of flexible pipes connected with a multi-ported distributing valve having extensions leading from the ports, the combination with the valve and connections, of a holder for said valve, said holder comprising a ring having a series of recesses for reception of the valve extensions, and a series of radial flat arms secured to and extending from said ring, the ends of said arms being upturned and disposed in alinement with said recesses for supporting the extensions of said valve.
