Application filed November 22, 1923. Serial No. 676,212.

This invention relates to a new serving device for using liquid cosmetics, especially rouge. It is the object of the invention to provide a serving device which will serve the rouge without danger of spilling any of it due to the same being retained in a container, by capillarity.

Fig. 5 is a view showing how the elements are assembled together.

The container and server comprises a relatively flat metallic capsule in which the body of the capsule is designated a and the cap of the capsule designated 6. The capsule is made out of metal which is preferably plated such as gold plate, silver plate, or nickel plate. This makes a very attractive and simple capsule.

\Vithin the body of the capsule is a pad 0, of felt. Preferably the body of the capsule is filled,say, about two-thirds full, of liquid as shown in Fig. 5. The felt pad is then immerged in the liquid and allowed to absorb the same; it will absorb all the liquid, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The liquid rouge will therefore be all held in capillarity by the pad, or what amounts to a stage of under-saturation, or possibly the exact saturation point. It is an object of the invention to avoid the over-saturation point for otherwise the server would leak if not held in the true vertical position.

sorbent pad in what may be rightfully called a state of capillarity, or in the state of under-satin tion, or just at the saturation point. This avoids any leaking, yet the pad will carry enough rouge so that it will last several months, although contained in a container only about 1 inches long, inch wide, and inch thick.

A cap I) fits over the capsule a, preferably in a sliding fit. This preferably has a crown e for fitting over the crown d of the pad 0. I prefer to give that part of the absorbent pad that projects out of the end of the body of the capsule a crowned formation, as this appears to be the most convenient for-using it when the server is pressed against the face to apply the rouge.

What I claim is:

1. A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics, comprising a vessel provided with a displaceable cap and containing an absorbent material in which is retained all the liquid of the vessel.

2. A carrier and server for liquid cos metics, comprising a vessel containing a felt pad, and a liquid rouge retained only in the pad and by capillarity.

3. A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics, comprising a vessel, an absorbent pad contained within the vessel, and a. liquid cosmetic contained wholly in the pad in the condition of absorption at or below saturation.

A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics, comprising a small vessel which may be manipulated with the fingers, an absorbent pad contained within the vessel and arranged to project out of one end of the vessel, 9. displaceable cap for the vessel, and a liquid cosmetic held in the vessel only in the said absorbent pad by capillarity.

5. A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics, comprising a relativelythin, small capsule arranged for manipulation by the fingers, a displaceable cap slidably fitting over the end of the capsule, and an absorbent pad contained within the capsule and arranged to project out one end thereof, and a liquid cosmetic held only in the absorbent pad and contained in such pad in a state of absorption substantially at or below saturation.

6. A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics comprising a porous pad constructed to retain its shape, and containing a liquid cosmetic by capillarity, and a container for said pad having a portion movable to positions to expose or conceal the pad.

7. A carrier and server for liquid cosmetics comprising an absorbing pad containing suflicient liquid cosmetic in a state substantially at or below saturation for a number of applications, and a container for said pad having a portion movable to positions to expose or conceal the pad.
