My invention relates to improvements in E the wall construction of frame uildings provided with an exterior plaster finish, and has for one of its objects the provision of grille Vti brackets for securing the plaster reinforcing grille or lathin in an outstanding mannerto 15 ment normally loc ed against movement on the lower end of the nail but o eratively slidable thereon for engaging an the reinforcing ille against the lower side of the nail hea when the nail is driven a roper distance in the wall sheathing; a still further object is'the provision of a spacin y element formed of a length of wirey coile around and on the nail and having an eX- tension on the-upper coil for-retaining the reinforcing grille on said coil whereby the.

With the foregoing still further objects and purposes in view which will appear as the de scription proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangement of partsand in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made `within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In- -the preferred form of the invention, the latera dimensions ofthe head of the nail are restricted, relative to the spacing element, so that the head willA seat upon the grille wire when the nail is projected downwardly through the spacing element as far as itrcan go and in which manner it is adapted to assist the extension on the upper end of the spacing element to hold the grille against the bod thereof.
In the modi ed form, the lateral dimensions of the nail head are relatively increased so that the head will seat upon the extension of the spacing element and thereby assist it to hold the grille against the spacing element.
Referring to the drawings in detail, throughout which like reference characters designate like parts- The numeral 1 designates the usual siding or wall sheathing secured to the frame-work of those portions of the walls-of frame buildings intended to be provided with an exterior coating of plastic material, which are preferably laid tight-jointed and offuniform thickness so as tol present a reasonably smooth outer surface for the reception of building paper 2, which is preferably disposed between the sheathing boards 1 and plastic material 2.

Over the sheathing boards 1 and e xteriorly of the paper 2 is stretched va w1re grille 3, which may consist of suitable network of wire. In the present instance the ille consists of ordinar chicken-wire emgdying-a lurality of wlres 4 inter-twisted at. 5, therellily formin o en meshes .6.

The coils 11 are intended to embrace the shank 8 with suiicient 'contractile tension sol as to become normally locked thereon against accidental movement in any direction, and theextensionv 12 is `intended to be in the form of an outwardly and upwardly extending curve having suilicient radius so that the wires 4 either single or in twisted pairs may .be readily inserted between the extension. 12 and the nail.
After the grille 3 has been stretched over the paper 2, I prefer to apply the bracket,
plrojecting the forward end thereof g one of the meshes 6 and disposing the shank 8 vso as to engage one side of one of the wires/4 with the extension 12 disposed on the opposite side thereof (see Fig.y 2), when the forward end of the shank 8 is "then disposed against the paper 2 and the nail driven through the pa er and into the sheathing boards 1 until e lower endA of the spaclng element 10 'seats against the4 paper and the nail ro'ected through the coils llwith the head o the nail engaging the wire 4, holding it down tightly upon the upper member of the coils.
After the nail has been driven down through the coils 11 as far as itcan go the extension 12 is struck downwardly and bent over upon the wire 4 thereby assisting the head 9 in permanently clamping the wire 4 ililpon the spacing element. In practice it w1 be found that when driving the nail the hammer may be caused to engage and bend the extension 12 bythe same blows requreddto project the nail into the sheathoar s.

the head of the nail is diametrically enlarged and overlaps a portion. of the ex` tension 12 thereby causing the extension to be automatically forced down u on the wire 4 bythe downward movement o the head of the nail.
