COMBINED REFILL AND PUFF HOLDER.

This invention relates to certain improvements in vanity cases.

In certain types of the small boxes now widely used for carrying cosmetics and 5 commonly known as vanity cases, the cos-. metic, either rouge or powder, is in the form of a compact. This compact is a mass of powder associated with a binder,-the comact material being usually molded on a plate or base of glass, aluminum or sim lar material, the article thus formed being known as the compact. In common types of vanity cases these compacts are what 1s known as refills, that is, after the compact is used up thebase may be removed from the box and a fresh compact with its base inserted therein. To hold the compacts 1n the boxes, certain devices known as refill clips or plates are employed, these refill holders being provided with projections which are arranged to engage under some cooperating projection in the box and removably hold the clip in place. In vanity cases of the best form puffs or applicators areprovided, these over the compact. To hold the puffs in position puff-holding devices have been employed in the form of separate plates with overlie the puff and holding the pufi in posi tion. Y

It is the principal object of the present invention to produce a construction whereby and a structure is provided in which therefill holder and the puff holder are combined in a unitary structure so that both material 40 and time are saved in making and assembling the box.

WVith this and other objects notspecifically referred to in view the invention consists in certain novel parts, arrangements 45. and combinations which will be described in connection with the accompanying drawings and the novel features pointed out in the claims hereunto appended. 1

Referring now to these drawings, the invention, as above illustrated, includes a vanity case provided with a base and a cover. 1n which there is provided a rouge compartment and a powder compartment 10- cated in the base, but it will be understood I that the invention is in no way limited to such a case but will be capable of use with a case of any shape in which a compact or rouge is used with a refill holder and in which the box is provided with means for removably securing the holder in place.

Referring, however, to the box shown, which well illustrates theinvention, there is provided a case having a cover 1 which may, if desired, be provided with a mirror, not shown and a base 2, these parts being piv-' otally associated on a hinge 3. The bot-tom and the-cover are formed with flanges which have an oblique portion 4 and a vertical portion 5, the vertical portions abutting'when the box is closed, a suitable catch, indicated at 6, being provided to hold the parts inposition. One of the members, as the top, may have its sidewalls near one end formed with a pair of cars 7 which form a convenient 'ip for opening the box.

ing a walled aperture 9 for the reception of a rouge compact. The walls 9 preferably extend to and rest on the bottom of the box. This plate is also formed with side and end flanges 10, 11, respectively, these flanges resting on the upper part of the inclined portion 4 of the bottom of the box, thus forming a stop for the plate. These side and end flanges are so proportioned as to extend slightly above the top of the'wall so as to form a ridge or flange 12 over which the cover may telescope. The plate is also formed with an aperture 13 to receive a powder compact. The walls 14 of this aperture'- also preferably extend to the bottom of the box as indicated at 15 so that, in effect, two wells are formed for the compacts and the plate around the apertures is slightly turned in as indicated at 16,-for a purpose hereinafter referred to.

These wells are capacitated to hold and powder compacts and their refill hers. In accordance with the invention, a v combined refill holder is rovided, the holder seating in the wells in t e box. While this holder may be constructed in various ways, so as to form a unitary structure, preferably for convenience in manufacture and ease in assembly, the compact and puff holder are integral.

In the particular construction -shown there is provided a-base 17 in the form of a thin annular plate of light brass or other spring metal which is or may be with a central opening 18. Forme on this plate at opposite sides thereof is a pair of compact holding projections. These projections are formed by striking out the metal to form legs 19 which are upwardly bent, as

indicated at 20, then outwardly bent, as indicated at 21. These "legs' resiliently seat under the inturned portion 16 of the latebefore referred to and removably hol the compact in place. Also formed on the plate 17 and (preferably integral therewith is a puiI-hol ng member. This fp'ulfi-holding member, in the best constructions, comprises a pair of puff-holding devices and these devices are preferably arranged on one side of a diameter taken through the center of the plate so that the puff may be easily placed in and removed from osition. In the particular construction i lustrated therefore, there is provided two puff- holding devices 22, 23, spaced apart and arranged on one side of a diameter taken through the plate. Each of these puif-hol'ding devices com rises a projection 24 extending outwardl om the plate which is then bent upwa rovided y as indicated at 25 and then inwardly as indicated at 26. The plate being made of spring metal, these holders are of sufiicient resiliency to ive when a puff is inserted therein, and to 101d the puff in position.

While the invention as above shown and described is considered to be its best form, it will be understood that certain changesand variations may be made in the specific structures shown and described without departing from the invention.

What I claim is:

L A combined compact holder. and puff holder comprising a base, a pair of spaced projections for holding a comact, and a. pair of pufi holders integral with the base and arranged between the compact holders.

2. In a vanity case, the combination with bottom and cover members of a flanged plate in one of the members provided with an aperture or well for a'cosmetic, a shoulder on the inner wall of the well, and a cosmetic -holder having compact holding projections engaging under the shoulder.

3. In a vanity case, the combination of bottom and'cover members'of a flanged plate in one of the members provided with an aperture or well for a cosmetic, a shoulder on the inner wall of the well, a cosmetic refill holder having compact holding projections engaging under the shoulder, and a pufi holder integral with the refill holder and extending above the rim of the-well.
