1927' F. CABRAL CLOTHES PRESS Filed-Feb. 1927 IN VENT OR Patented Oct. 4, 1927.
FLORIMUNDO OABRAL, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
CLOTHES rnnss.
Application filed February 15,: 1927. Serial No. 168,436.
' vide a clothes press on the order of a very shallow suitcase wherein the trousers are disposed within the interior of one half and the coatand vest within the interior of the other half, each half having spring-urged strips on each side thereof that press against I portions of the garments conthe creased tained therein.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following detailed description.
I attain these objects and advantages by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure l is a View in perspective show ng the clothes press in its opened condition with the coat and trousers shown pressed down by the spring-urged pressing members.
Figure 2 is an elevational view showing the clothes press in its closed condition having the appearance of a suitcase.
Referring to the drawings, the clothes press there illustrated comprises the receptacle members A, B, which are hinged together to form a box. They are of sufiicient width to accommodate either a coat or trousers in the same position as when the coat is hung on a coat hanger and the trousers suspending their entire length. The width of the members A, B, is governed by the width of the coat R in the position shownin Fig. 1 and.
p the length determined by the length of the trousers S. The depth of each member is shallow being sutficient only to accommodate the garments. It should be understood however,.that these suggested dimensions may be varied to accommodate additional garments.
Each of the members consists of a bottom member C, sides D, and ends E; and they are hinged at F so that they close together. Within the interior of each member at the sides D thereof, are disposed pressing members G. The'pressing members are narrow strips of metal, wood or other suitable material in parallel relation to the sides and of suflicient width and length to cover the creased portions in the garments. The pressing members are secured to the interior ofv the members A, B, by spring hinges H wvhereby the pressing members Ur are forced against the bottoms of the members AQB. The spring hinges H are secured to the members A, B, through the medium ofthe narrow holding strip members J to which thespring hinges are attached, the strip members J be ing secured to the bottom or sides of the interior of the box-like members A, B. Fastening means L and handle means K arepro vided for respectively locking the box-like members together and. to render the same easily portable.
The manner. and use of the hereinbefore I described invention is as follows. The clothes press is opened to the position shown in Figure l. The garments such as the coat or trousers are disposed and folded in to the position in which the creased portions fornr the edges of the garments, such as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 1 (this is what I term the stretched out, condition). The pressing members are raised and the coat or trousers lowered into place, care being taken to preserve the creased portions at the edges, and the pressing members released. It will be appreciated that the force of the pressing members will maintain and preserve the creases in the garments. The amount of pressure exerted by the pressing members may be varied by using a stronger or weaker spring hinge. I V i [The section which contains'the "coat will generally provide enough unused space (see Figure l) to accommodate a vanity box or loose articles. I
All that has been said above in the descrip tion of my preferred embodiment is offered by way of illustrationand not limitation. I do not wish to be limited to the exact structure of the preferred embodiment shown and described, or to any particular material used in the construction of parts, or to the design of parts, but desire protection as against any variations in structure which utilize the prina ciple of my invention and fall within the purview of my invention and are within the spirit and scope of the following claim.
