PATENT vIsE.

i* Application filed July 23,1924. Serial No. 727,790. n i

This invention relates to a vise, the generjal object kof the invention being to make the jaws of the vise capable :of holding articles both horizontally and vertically.

Another object of the invention is to provide spring means for normally holding the jaws apart. j Y Y This invention also consists in certain other features Aof construction' and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be Vhereinafter'fully described, illustrated in the; accompanying drawings andspecifically pointed out claim. v

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawin the i appended ings wherein likecharacters denote likeor corresponding vparts. throughout the several views, and in which:- Y

Figure 1 is an elevation ofthe improved vise.v r n l Y l Figure 2 is a* plan view.

Figure 3 is an end' view. Y In these views, lfndicates the male member and 2 thevfemale member of the jaws. These membersare each provided with-the if vprojecting side portions l and 2 which are part l Y Y with transversely extending V-shaped -recesses 8, the walls of which are stepped, as to support articles in a horizontal posi? at 9 tion and the extremities of the jaw part 6 and the bottom of the recess'formed by the parts 7 are formed with V-shaped recesses;

10, thekwalls of which are stepped to'support articles in a vertical position. Theparts 1 and 2. are each provided with a lip 11 forl engaging the jaws A of a vise for holding the members l and 2 in place between the jaws.

Fromthe foregoing it will be seen that the recesses in the parts 6 and 7 will grip and hold anV article in horizontal position while the recessesV 10 will grip and hold an articlev in vertical position.

vIt is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combinationand arrangement of the several parts, Vprovided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim. n

What I claimy is An attachment for a vise comprising a male jaw and a female jaw, each jaw having projecting side portions which are perfonuts on the outer ends of theL rods forlimiting the outward movement ofthe jaws, springs on the yrods between the members` for normallyholding the members apart, the male member' being provided with a single projection and the female member having Va pair of spaced projections `for forming a space for receiving the single projection, each projection being formed with asubstantially V-shaped recess in its free end which is arranged to support articles in a horizontal position and the single projection and the bottom of the space between the two projections being formed with substantially V-shaped recesses which are vertically arranged to support articles in a vertical position, all therecesses'having their walls provided with gripping projections and the rear part of'each jaw havinga lip thereon fork engaging the jaws of a v1se.

f In testimony'whereof I affix my signature. GEORGE W. FETTERS.l
