PATENT OFFICE.

FOUNTAIN COMB.
Application filed October 20, 1927. Serial 110.22%524.
The invention relates to combs for dressing the hair and has for its object the provis on of a comb provided with means for applylng a hair dressing to the hair while the hair is being combed.
A further object of the invention is the provision Of'fi. comb having a recess in its back to contain hair dressing with a filling opening through which the hair dressing is applied to said recess, said recess opening outwardly of one side of the back and having the walls of the recess converged outwardly, a presser plate having inclined wallsbeing engaged in said recess to squeeze the contents of the recess through conduits in the teeth of the comb, said conduits opening outwardly of the teeth adjacent to their outer ends.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a side View of the improved fountain comb, shown partly in section,
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on a plane'ihdicated by the line 22 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a fragmental side elevation partly in section showing a means for filling the recesswith hair dressing.
In the drawings similar reference charac- 80 ters are used to designate corresponding parts in the several views.
-In the comb shown in the-drawings, the back 1 has at one end a recess 2 formed therein to hold hair dressing in liquid or 85 paste form, said recess opening outwardly of one side of the back 1 and having the walls of the recess converged as shown at 3 and 4. 5 indicating the presser plate having its side edges inclined to engage said walls 3 and 4, and adapted to be engaged by the fingers of the user to press the plate inwardly of the recess to discharge the contents of the recess through conduits 6 in teeth 7, said conduits communicating with the recess,'and having lateral discharge openings adjacent to the outer ends of the teeth, said openings being designated 8.
9 indicates a filler 0 ening at one end of the back 1 and having its outer end threaded W as shown at 10 to receive a plug 11'to close the opening as shown in Figure 1, or to 're- .ceive a threaded nozzle A of a collapsible tube B, as shown in Figure 3 to supply the recess 2 with a liquid or paste hair dressing.
In the form of the invention shown in the drawings. the end of the back 1 remote from the recess 2 has other teeth 12 for combing the hair, but it will be apparent that the fountain comb may be made without the extension and the combing teeth 12 if desired, and furthermore that the comb may be made of any nmterial and of any proportions opposed walls of said recess converged outwardly of the back, a presser plate having inclined sides singly engaged in said rec ss,
and adapted to be actuated by pressure of the fingers and teeth carried by said back and having conduits theretln'ough communicating with said recess.
3. A fountain comb. comprising a back having a recess therein and a filling opening comi'nl'micating with said. recess, opposed walls of said recess converged outwardly of the back. a presser plate l'laving inclined sides engaged in said recess. a resilientfiller strip in said recess and engaging said presser plate, said filler strip closing the joints between the walls of the recess and the presser plate and normally holding the presser plate outwardly of the recess, and teeth carried by said back and having conduits therethrough communicating with the FRANK 0; men.
