PORTABLE WASHING MACHINE.

My invention relates to portable washing machines adapted to be mounted in an ordinary tub, either of the fixed or movable type and has for its object to provide apparatus of the character designated which shall be simpleand economical in construction, effective in operation and hi hly portable and compact, as is desired or the small household.

In the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 1s a side view, partially in section and partially in elevation, of a device constructed in accordance with my-invention; and Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic view illustrating the ap lication thereof to the, ordinary set tub. n many small housekeeping apartments, room is not available for the use of a washing machine of the usual type, but still the desire exists to do away, if possible, with the manual features of clothes washing and of dish washing. I, therefore, propose to provide a portable washing device in the form of an elongated tubular body member provided at its lower end with a propeller pump and at its u per end with a suitable fluid projecting n zzle, the entire device being adapted to be mounted in a tub by means of a suitable clamp and the pump to be driven b a small motor. With a device of this c aracter, either dishes or clothing may be placed in the set tub with a su table amount of washing fluid and the device placed in operation, whereupon fluid is drawn from the lower portion of the tub and pro ected as over the articles to be cleansed, resulting in 'a suitable cleansing action thereon.

' Referring to the drawings for 'a more detailed understanding of my invention, I show an elongated tubular frusto-conical 40 member 10 provided with a motor 11 at the upper portion thereof-and with a propeller pump 12 at the lower portion thereof, these elements being joined by a suitable drive shaft 13. I

The member-10 is closed at its lower end as by a foraminous member 14 and is provided adjacent its upper end with a suitable nozzle 15'which is shown as mounted in a ball joint so as to be readily adjustable by hand, although this ball joint is set up sufficiei'itly tight so as to preclude free motion of the nozzle under the reaction of a fluid jet projected therefrom.

A suitable clamp 16, of any desired naber 14, clogging of the pump, as by articles ture, is attached to the body portion 10 for. the mounting thereof in a suitable tub.

Referring to Figure 2, the device is shown as mounted in a'set tub 17 and preferably the lower end thereof is surrounded by a screen 18 closely conforming to the shape of a tub to prevent clogging of the device. The operation will be obvious from the foregoing. The articles to be cleansed are placed in the tub with a suitable amount of cleansing fluid and the washing device clamped on the front of the tub, as shown. Upon starting the motor 11, cleansing fluid is drawn through the screen 18 and-through the bottom member 14 by the pump 12 and is projected from the nozzle 15 upon the articles to be cleansed. By the manipulation of the nozzle 15, all portions of the interior of the set tub may be reached. 'By the joint action of the screen 18 and the memof clothing, is prevented, but at the same time an ample supply of fluid is permitted to pass through the device.

While I have shown my invention in but one form, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited but is susceptible of various other changes and modifications without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be laced thereupon as ar'eimposed by the prior art or as are specifically set forth in theappended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A portable washing device comprising a tubular body member, a propeller pump in the lower portion thereof and adapted to force washing fluid upwardly therethrough, a driving device for said pump mounted on the upper portion of said body member, a manually-a justable fluid-directing nozzle on said body member having a ball and socket connection with said bodymember, and means for mounting said device in a suitable receptacle.
