This invention relates to watern purification and moreparticularly to anovei apparatus forpurifying water by electrolysis.

Arranged along opposite side edges of the base A are a series of bosses 10 adapted to receive the shouldered elongated bolts or standards 11 which may be secured to the base by thev clamping nuts 12. These standards are of reduced diameter at their upper ends as indicatedat 13 and are surroundedA by insulating sleeves 14 thereby to insulate the members 15 .which are supported thereby.

These screws 'are provided at one end with` operating portions 18 and have their lower ends 19 swivelled in suitable bosses 20 formed B. It will, therefore, be apparent that by manipulatingthe screws 17 in the cross-heads, the, topB may be raised or lowered as desired to place clamping pressure on the gaskets C and plates D or to relieve such pressure to permit the readywithdrawal of the plates.
The top B is recessed asindicated 'at 21 to provide an outlet chamber 21 communieating with the outlet passage 22 and which in turn is connected with an outlet nipple 23 -having the elbow' fitting 24 attached thereto. The said fitting 24 is coupled with a special slip joint construction 25 which receives a bakelite pipe section 26 held in the same from the cross-head l the insulating bushings on the standardsV members Aand B, which as previously in-k dicated are` insulated from each other by that support the cross-heads. By reference to Figurest and 5 ofthe drawings, it -will `be apparent that the insulating gasket units C? are of rectangular formation and include an insulating body 28 of hard insulating material preferably bakelite which has secured to the opposite faces thereof the relatively thinV and com paratively soft sections of segalite gasket material which insures the making of a wateretight connection between each gasketand plate. Y The construction described provides Aa laminated gasket wherein the bulk of the gasket is a body Aof hard insulation p which is not affectedby moisture, thereby preventing distortion of the. gaskets and zonsequent leakage.

When the device is assembled as shown in Figuie l', water enters 'the inlet connection 3 and makes its way into-the chamber e and from thence-it passes through the opening 31 of the lower plate D, and thencebetween the two lowermost plates D to the opening 3l of the second plate at the far end of the box. The water then continues torpass between adjacent plates until it reaches the upper 'chamber 21 and the outlet passage 22v whereuponv it is y conducted outwardly through the insulated discharge line 24, 25, 26, which communicates with the outlet passage 7 ofl the base.
If is desired to repaira `gaskety or clean the machine, it is onlyk necessary to manipulate the screws 18 to lift the top B- to thereby permit the separation of the plates and interposed gaskets so that-'either or both can be withdrawn longitudinally from the end of the machine opposite the purified water discharge connections. The slip oints in the dischargeor outlet line: permit of the movement of the bottom and top members A and B without separation of the parts forming the dischargeor outlet line. l i Without further descriptionit is thought that the. features and advantages of the invent-ion will be readily apparent I'to those skilled inthe art, andit will of coursel be understood that changes in the form, proportion vand minor details of construction may be resorted to, Without departing from the spirit of the invention and scope ofthe appendedvclaims. f I claim:- l g v1 An electrode boX including a chambered base, insulation members supporting the base, standards affixed to the base, cross head members carried by the standardsand insulated therefrom, a chambered 4top nadjustably suspended from said cross head members, an outlet connection carried by the top member and a slipjoint connection l carried by the base, and 'an'insulating tubing connecting the outlet of the topmemh ber with the slip joint connection on the base. 3
2. An electrode boX including a base, standards carried by the base, insulation sleeves carried by the uppery ends of the standards, a top member carried by the standards and insulated therefrom by said sleeves, means' for adjustably suspending the said top with reference to the base, a plurality of ported metallic electrodel plates and insulating gaskets arranged between the top and the base, an inlet .connection for the base, an outlet connection for the top, an outlet connection on the base, and` a slip joint including an insulating tubing between the outlet connection for the top and the outlet connection for the base.
