THEBMOSTATICALLY-OPERATED SWITCH.
Application filed September 3, 1921. Serial No. 498,834.
This invention relates to alarms of the automatic type which will indicate the presence of fire or any attempt to enter through a window or door thus acting simultaneously as a 5 fire alarm and a bur lar alarm.
Another object the invention is to provide means for adj ustably supporting a thermostat so as to regulate the amount of heat which will be necessary to actuate the same to lo an extent suflicient to cause the signal to operate.
Another object of the invention is to provide a circuit closing device which is actuable by thermostats or some mechanical mecha-- l nism such as a window or door. j r
A still further object of the invention is to enerally improve upon alarms of this nature y providing a device which will be of ex tremely simple and eflicient construction, one which may be manufactured at a comparative low cost and will be reliable in operation.
With the above and numerous other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that 1 indicates a container which may be of any preferred construction and in the present modification is provided with a battery compartment 2 having situated therein the dry cells 3. The larger compartment 4 contains the thermostat and circuit closing means and also the alarm. The alarm 5 is preferably audible in the nature of the ordinary electric bell which is in the circuit with the batteries 3 through the electric wires 6. A circuit closing means is disposed in the to circuit formed by the wire 6 and is mounted on a support 7. This circuit closing mechanism consists of a push button switch 8 of conventional construction and a lever 9 which is fulcrumed at 10 to the support 7 so as to have one end 11 situated in front of or adjacent the push button 12 of the push button switch 8. The other end of the lever 9 is connected to a cable 13 which may be attached to a door or window so that when the same is opened or raised this cable 13 will be ulled upon so as to a tuate th lever 9 where y the end 11 will push inwardly upon the push button 12 so as to close the switch 8 thereby sounding the audible alarm 5 as will be read ily understood.
An adjustable thermostat bracket is situateddirectly in front of the support 7 and consists of apair of spaced bars 14 having the feet 15 which are fixed to the bottom of the container 1. These bars 14 are each provided with a slot 16 extending transversally thereof adjacent its top so as to receive the bolster 17 which is mounted inthe bar 18. This bar 18 is rov'ided with alsleeve 19 at its top for recelving a screw 20 which supports the thermostat 21'. A pair of In 22 are formed adjacent the lower end 0 the bar 18 so as to rest on top of one of the rods 14 as shown to advantage in Figure 4. The bolster 17 is provided with the usual thumb screw so that when the same is tightened the bar 18 will be held in firm engagement with the rods 14. If it is desired to adjust the thermostat 21 this thumb screw is unscrewed and the bar 18 may be moved in its relation either rearwardly or forwardly upon the rods 14.
The thermostat 21 is of convential construction and is provided with a pro'ecting contact member 23 which when the t ermostat is ex anded by the heat will en age the end 11 o the lever 9 so as to force 310 same in engagement with the push buttons 12 so as to close the switch 8 for sounding the audible alarm 5.
The above description and the accompan ing drawing relate to the preferred embod ment of my invention, but of course it will be understood that numerous changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the accompalniying claim.
