This invention relates to improvements in cigarette or ci ar clips, and has for its object to provi e an improved holder for cigarettes and ci ars by means of which the smoker will get t e full benefit of the smoke and yet be prevented fromburning his fingers, or discoloring the same asis the case when holding a cigarette or cigar between v the fin ers. Anot er object of the invention is to provide .a cigarette holder which will be chea to manufacture, and which is provided winovel means for manipulatingthe same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clip having spring means for clippinidthe cigarette and including means for r'ea y releasing the said grip on the cigarette when desired.
With the. above and such other objects in view as may hereinafter more fully appear, I have invented the device shown in the accompanying illustration in which i i Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of my improved cigarette clip; a
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-'-2 thereof;
. Fi re 3 is an elevational view of a modified orm-of the invention,
Figure 4 is. an;elevational view of Figure 1, shown partly broken away.
Like reference characters ndicate like parts throu bout the following specification and in t eseveral views in the drawings in which 1 indicates my improved cigarette. holder which comprises a hollow metal ms- 5 ing 2, which may be round, oval, -or any ot er desired shape, one end of saldcasing terminating in a reduced portion 3, forming a clip member. A similarly formed clip members, is pivoted at 5, by means of the in 6, to the member 2, and has one end 7',
' ged to the extracting rod' which rodv projects longitudinally throu L the center of thecasing 2, and has coiled 'ithe'rearound a spring 9, one end of said s ring being fixed to said rod 8, as indicate at 10.
The rod 8, terminates at its freeend, in a handle 12, by means of which the clip'memher 4 is operated, said clip member being held normally in closed position by means of the action of the spring 9, and rod 8. A
stopper 13 is providedm. suitable distance below the spring 9, to which one end of the spring 9 is attache The casing 2, is provided with a rou h1- ened surface14, near its upper end, in or er hand of the user. A cap or washer 15, is provided for the upper eiid 11 of the casin 2 which is adapted to close the same an th prevent dust and other forei matter from entering into the casin an through the opening 15, forms a gui e for the rod 8. In Figure 3 I show a modification of the invention in which the device is made from a'single piece of spring metal, 16, the same being bent into arms 17 and 18, at right angles to one another, the said arms overlap-' ping at 19, and terminating in clips 20, and 21, of a size to readily grip a cigarette or cigar. v
In operation. the user merely pushes down on the flanges 22, and 23, whereby the clips 20, and 21 are caused to open, thereby permitting the insertion of the cigarette or ci ar after which the hold on the same is 'to prevent the same from turning in the re eased and the cigarette" or cigar will be held firmly by said clip.
Having described my invention that which I claim to be new and desire to procure by Letters Patent is:-
1. A device as described consisting of a tube having an integrally extending aw, a movable jaw having a lever end pivotally mounted within said tube, and means for operating the last jaw to cooperate with the first jaw to hold a. cigarette.
2. A device as described consisting of a tube having an integrally extending jaw a movable jaw having a lever end pivotally mounted within said tube, and means for operating the last jaw to cooperate with the first j aw to hold a cigarette, said means consisting of a rod slidable within 'said tube and pivotally connected to said lever end.
3. A device as described in claim 2, a crook in said rod, a disk in said tube and a s'prin between said crook and disk and coils around said rod to normally hold the jaws closed upon one another.
In-testim'ony whereof I'aflix my signature.
