c. TANNEBAUIM POCKET GUARD Filed Dec. 30, 1927 ATTORN EY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 20, 1928.
CARL TANNEBAUM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
Application filed December 30, 1927. Serial No. 243,716.
This invention relates to improvements in pocket guards. The primary object of the invention resides in a guard or protective device for attachment to the pocket of a garment for safeguarding the contents of the pocket, such as bills, checks, tickets and the like fronr theft or J accidental loss.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a pocket guard adapted to be removahly clamped upon the wall of a pocket so as not to interfere with access to the interior of the pocket when desired but which holds the contents of the pocket against theft or loss as any attempt by a pickpocket toremove the valuables will be instantly detected.
A further object is the provision of a pocket guard which is simple of construction,
easy to apply and remove from the pocket by the wearer, and which is practical and efficient for every day use by persons who carry paper money and like valuables.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the
invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved pocket guard.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view therethrough showing the same in an applied position upon a pocket.
Referring particularly to the drawing, the reference numeral 10 designates my improved pocket guard in its entirety, which includes a flat elongated body member 11 having one of its ends looped and bent upon itself to provide an arm 12. Pivoted to the free end of the arm 12 as at 13 is a clamp 14: which includes a jaw 15 and a tail or manipulating arm 16. Both the jaw and tail co-act with the body 11 to clamp the guard to the wall 17 of a pocket 18 as shown in Figure 8 of the drawing.
The body 11 is provided with an elongated slot 19 therein for slidably receiving the shanks of headed studs 20 which extend from the back of a spring clip 21. The clip 21 has a fiat straight portion 22 which is slidable over the back of said body member 11 and a resilient sprin to clamp any fl g bill or jaw 23 which tends at article to be held against the I straight portion 22 of the clip.
In practice, the paper money, tickets or the like to be protectedare clamped between the jaw 28 and the adjacent portion of the clip, after which the guard is inserted into the pocket so that the clamp 14 clamps the protector to one of the walls thereof adjacent the mouth of the pocket. Upon insertion of the pocket guard into the pocket, the weight of the clip and th drop to the bo e articles held thereby tends to ttom of the pocket away from the open mouth thereof. The valuables are securely held against accidental loss through the mouth of the pocket and any attempt to slide the clip outward toward the mouth to remove the valuables held thereby will be readily detected.
It is believed that pocket equipped with a guard such a sure the safe 0 s shown and described will asarrying of valuables. Should the wearer desire to remove any of the yaluables heldby the clip, he unfastens the clamp 14- and slides the protector out through the mouth of the p ocket whereuponthe valuables thing less tha n the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is: A pocket guard comprising an elongated body member bent upon itself at one end to provide an arm, a clamping device pivoted to sald arm and adapted to co-act with said body member pocket therebe having an elon clip provided through said s clip upon said In testimon signature.
for clamping the wall of a tween, said elongated member gated slot therein, and a spring withheaded pins extending lot for slidably mounting said body member; V y whereof I have affixed my CARL TANNEBAUM.
