l. WILLIAMS ELECTRIC HEATER Filed July 29, 1927 m PP ATTOR N EY Patented Feb. 19, 1929.
UNITED STATES ISIAH WILLIAMS, F GABY, IN'DIANA.
Application filed July 29,
This invention relates to heaters for use in warming parts of the human body, an object ot' the invention being to provide means for keeping the feet warm, and thereby not en ly warming these members of the body, but by doing so, add to the warmth of the entire body. v
Another object of the invention is the provision of means of the above character which may be readily secured in position for use and may be worn without discomfort.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a heater of the character stated which is simple in construction, and in which the heating element may be readily replaced.
lith the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in ,the accompanyingr drawings and pointed out in theappended claim.
In the drawings f ,s
Figure 1 is a plan view of one of the feet warming devices.A
Figure 2 is a sectional View illustrating by dotted lines the position of a shoe within the foot Warmer. 1
FigureB is a section taken substantially on the line4-4 of Figure 1.
Figure 4.- is a fragmentary section showing the manner of latching the front andl rear sections.
Referring to the drawings in detail wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding. parts, the reference character indicates generally a foot warmer or heater. This heater comprises a shell which includes a front section 16 and a back section 17, the,
sections being hingedly connected at adjacentedges as shown at 18. vThe other ad]a cent edges of the sections are connected by a latch 19 which is secured to one of the sec-4 tions and which engages a tooth 2O carried by the other section.
The frontsection 16 is shaped substantially in conformity with the shape of a shoe and is adapted to iit over the top of a shoe, while the back section 17 is shaped so as to conform substantially to the shape of the back of a shoe. The back section extends upward above the upper edge of the front section and a strap 21 is adapted to extend 1927. Serial No. 209,324.
around the shoe and have its opposite ends connected to the edges of the back section. One edge of the back section carries a buckle 22 to provide connecting means for the free end of the strap.
Located within the front section andadapted to extend upward along the front of the shoe from the toe of the latter is a heating element. This heating element may be of a suitable type, the element shown comprisin an isinglass core 23 around which is coile a resistance wire 24. An asbestos or other insulating member 25 is positioned between the resistance element and shell and the structure is removably held in placeby means of attaching elements 26 located at each end of the heating element.
The back section 17 carries a holder or pocket 27 Within which is positioned an electric cell 28 which provides a source of current for the heating element, connection being effected by means of a conductor cord 29. The holder or pocket 27 is closed b a plug 30 which is threadedly secured in p ace and which is provided With ears or linger pieces 31.
A switch'S2, arranged upon the battery holder controls the supply of current'to the heating element.
The inventionI is susceptible `of `various changes lin its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as pro erly fall within the scope of the appended c aim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is An electric heater comprising a shield shaped substantiall in conformity with the shape of a shoe an comprising a front section and a back section, means connecting one edge of the front section with one edge of the back section to permit of relative movement of said sections, means detachablyconnecting opposite edges of the front and back sections, an electric heating .element carried within the front section, a source of current carried by the back section and means elec` trically connecting the heating element and source of current. s
' In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
