' CLOSURE FOR BEDDING.

This invention relates to closures for bedding, such as pillow slips, pillow cases,

mattress covers, crib ticking covers, and the like.

The object of the invention is to provide .a closure eliminating the use of buttons,

, snaps, and the like, so as to provide a comparatively smooth surface.

further object of the invention is to provide an improved closure of novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.

The above described construction is such as will permit the lacing 1?, when pulled taut to enclose the said opening. I

In Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawing, I have shown a strip 18, to which the above described crocheted members 10 and 11 are secured or attached in the above described manher, the said strip 18 being secured to any desired cover for bedding at the opening formed therein, which will permit the above mentioned lacing 17 to be inserted therein, as above'set forth. The above described construction is such as will permit my improved closure to be marketed as a commercial article and readily appliedto any desired cover of the class described and above set forth.

Figs. 4 and 5' disclose the strips 18 formed with longitudinal folds 19 so that when the material is stretched to open these folds, the

size of the pillow casing to which the strips are secured Wlll be increased to accommodate a slightly difierent sized pillow. A plurality pieces 21 are stitched to the material below the fold and positioned intermediate of the pieces20. Each of the triangular pieces have loops v22 secured to the tops or bottoms so as to be in a horizontal line. Strings 23 are laced through the loops to normally hold the folds 19 in folded condition. Since all of the loops are in a horizontal line, the strings 23 may be laced in a straight line, saving time in lacing and requiring less string than if the string were zig-zagged up and down,

\Vhile I have above described the preferred form, construction and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood .that the device is nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:

A pillow casing having an opening therein through which a pillow is adapted to be inserted, and lacing means for closing said opening, parts of the casing opposite said opening being folded upon themselves, a plurality of spaced triangular pieces of material attached to the folded portions of the "casing and other similar pieces of material oppositely directed andpositioned between .the said pieces and attached to the material adjacent the fold and provided with attached loops, and a tensioning device passing through all of said loops for adjusting the size of the casing.
