Description

y I July 16, 1929. o. F. DALLEY 7 L 0 BOTTLE SEALER Filed Aug. 29, 1927 A TORNEY Patented July 16, 1929.

DONALD E. DALLEY, or YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO.
BOTTLE SEALER.
Application filed. August 29, 1927. Serial No. 216,132.
This invention relates to a bottle sealing device. The principal object of this invention is to provide a device which eliminates the neer when functioning with the bottle or jar top.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein e Figure 1 is a sectional view of the sealer and bottle or ar top. I t
Figure 2 is a top plan viewof the device.
By referring to the drawing it will be seen that I have provided a bottle or jar 1. This bottle or jar 1 is provided with a rounded upper edge 2 and an upper flange member 3. Directly below the upper flange member3 there is provided a flange member 4:. This flange member 4 is utilized in holding a wire band 5 from slipping upwardly when a tension wire 6 is secured to the same. by any desirable means for the purpose of holding a sealing member 7 under tension with the rounded upper edge 2 of the bottle or jar 1.
The sealing member 7 is provided with a circular metallic expansion member 8 which is imbedded in the sealing member 7. This circular, metallic expansion member 8 is secured at a central position to a disc 9. This disc 9 being of sufi'icient circumference to cover a larger portion of the rounded upper edge 2 of the bottle or jar 1. In order to hold the tension wire 6 in a central position in relation t0 the disc 9 I have provided a securing member 10 which is an extended portion of the disc 9.
WVh-en the bottle. or jar 1 has been filled and it is desired to seal the same the sealing member 7 which is provided with a stopper portion'll is inserted in the mouth of the bottle or ar 1 so that an annular groove 12 forms a contact with the rounded upper edge 2 of the bottle or jar 1. 'When the tension has been transmitted to the tension wire 6 the circular metallic expansion member 8 is caused to pressthe rubber underneath the same downwardly and outwardly due to a saucer shaped bottom portion 14 of the circular metallic expansion member 8Q The disc 9 exerts a pressure upon the sealing member 7 forcing the rubber downwardly in a tension contact with the rounded upper edge 2 of the bottle or jar 1. v
It is obvious that due to this circular metallic expansion member 8 and the disc 9 when tension has been transmitted to the same there has been caused a direct downward pressure uponthe rounded upper edge 2 and a downward and outward pressure on the rounded upper edge 2 and against the inner wall 18 of the stopper portion 11, by a constant pressure of the rubber thus compressed in the sealing member 7 and the stopper portion 11.
What I claim is: o I Ina device of the class described, a rubber sealing device, an annular groove formed in said rubber sealing device on its under edge in order to form a contact with a rounded upper edge of a bottle, a disc member positioned on top of said sealing device, a downwardly extending circular metallic expansion member attached at a central position on said disc member, a saucer shaped under portion of said circular metallic expansion member, said circular metallic expansion member not only centrally positioned in reference to. the sealer but above the annular groove formed in-said rubber sealing member, means for holding said rubber sealinglnem ber in compressed contact with upper edge of bottle mouth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DO ALD-F. DALLEY.
