Description

June 10, 1930.
E. L'. SCHWAB 1,762,311
BRACKET Filed. Nov. 21, 1927 Patented June 10, 1930 PATENT OFFICE EDWARDL. SCHWAIB, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS BRACKET App1ication filed November 21, 1927. Serial No. 234,641.
The invention relates to improvements in brackets, and primarily to that type which are designed to support and display greeting or other cards.
The invention has as its prime object the production of a bracket having a body portion provided with means for engaging and supporting a card or other article, and having an element which projects from the body in portion, whereby said body portion of the bracket may be supported to display a card or other article when the latter is associated with the body port-ion.
It is a further object of the invention to produce the bracket of material which may be stamped from a sheet of pliant material, and which may be bent so that the element which projects from the body portion may be formed to meet various contingencies with which the user may be confronted in afiixing the bracket in position to display the card.
The invention has the above and other objects, all of which will be explained and more readily understood when read in con junction with the accompanying drawings which illustrate one form of which the invention is susceptible, it being obvious, however, that changes and modifications may be re sorted to without departing from the spirit c of the appended claims forming a part hereof.
In the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a view of a blank from which the device may be formed;
Fig. 2 shows the device associated with a movable base;
Figs. 8, 4 and 5 show various modes of application of the bracket to support a card.
The structure contemplates the use of a 4.0 bracket which is stamped from a sheet of relatively thin pliantmaterial to form the blank shown in Fig. 1. This blank is formed to produce the body portion 10 and the projection or extension 11 which extends from the body portion.
The body portion 10 is provided with the part 12 which is provided to extend a suitable distance inward of the edge of the card to act to support the card adjacent the center thereof. The body part 10 is further provided with one or more prongs 13 and 14 which are punched from the body portion and formed to allow a card or other similar article to be reniovably held thereby between said prongs and the body portion. The body part has the additional provision of apertures 15-15 whereby the device may be se cured to a support by means ct fastening elements which are passed through these holes.
The projection or extension 11 may be in the shape of a relatively narrow strip, as illustrated, which is of a length suilicient to allow it to be bent to form it so that it may serve to permit of attachment of the device to supports which may be arranged in relatively different positions.
The extension 11 is designed to be bent upon itself to increase the thickness thereof and produce the end 16 whereby this portion may be inserted and removably held in a groove 18 produced in the base 19. The extension 11 is, as before stated, of a length sufficient to permit it to be bent to produce a part 20 which is arranged. transversely to the body portion and the part 21 which is substantially parallel thereto. to thus provide parts which may be arranged and secured to either a horizontally or vertically arranged ledge, standard or support.
To this end, the extension 11 is further provided with apertures respectively designated 22 and 23, one of which is located adjacent the extremity of the extension, and the other substantially midway between the v extremity and the body portion 11 to thus provide a means in each part 20 and 21 through which a fastening element, such as a nail or screw, may be passed to secure the device in position.
It is manifestthat the construction is such that the body portion 10 and the extension 11 may be bent relatively to each other, either prior to or after fastening of the device in place to arrange the card so that it may be displayed to the best advantage and will sccurely yet removably hold the card or other similar commodity.
Having described the invention, what I claim and desire to cover by Letters Patent is:
1. A card supporting display device having a body portion having means for engaging and holding a card relatively to said body portion, said body portion having a pliant member in the form or" a relatively narrow strip extending from an edge thereof adapted to be bent relatively to the body portion to arrange and maintain the body portion and strip at various angles relatively to each other, and said strip having means providing for attachment of said device to a support.
2. A card supporting display device having a body portion having means for engaging and holding a card relatively to said body portion, said body portion having a pliant member in the form of a relatively narrow strip extending from an edge thereof adapted to be bent relatively to the body portion to arrange and maintain the body portion and strip at various angles relatively to each other, and said strip having a pointed end ,1
whereby said end may be inserted in an article and thereby support said display device by said end.
In Witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 15th day of November, A. 1).,
EDWARD L. SCHWAB;
