Description

1930. J. w. RAGAN 1,779,106
ATTACHMENT FOR HAIR CLIPPERS Filed May 15, 1929 In venior Attorney Patented Oct. 21, 1930 UNITED STATES.
PIA-TE JOSEPH w. BAGA N F fiA NN1iBAL, mrssoom ATTACHMENT FOB nine on'rrnns Application filed May 15, 1929. Serial No. 363,211.
This invention relates to an attachment for hair clippers particularly designed for use on electro-magnetically operated hair clippers.
An important object of this invention is 5 to provide an attachment of the above nature With attachments of this type as are now.
on the market, it has been found impossible to so cut the. hair as before described, if the hair is fine or short or laid close to the scalp.
Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment for electro-rnagnetically operated hair clippers wherein the attachment is so formed as to prevent the hair from slipping beneath the lower teeth of the lower plate, since the said attachment is designed to be in close working relation with the teeth on the lower plate and yet does not interfere with the working arrangement of the clip pers proper.
Another very importantobject of this invention is to provide an attachment of this character which is capable of being held in adjusted position on the clippers, is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to attach and detach, inexpensive to manufacture,
thoroughly reliable and efiicient'in use and otherwise well adapted for cooperation with the clippers to enable the said clippers to do their work as they were intended and designed.
Vith the above and numerous other objects in View as will appear as the description pro- 40 ceeds, the invention resides in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view ofa well known type of magnetically driven hair clippers sholwing my attachment associated therewit the hair line on the hair at about one-thirty-.
the backing plate '8 of the stationary Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation thereof having certain parts broken away toclearly illustrate the application of my invention' in con unction with the clippers Figure 3 is a top plan view of the invention perse. 'Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that theletter designates a well known type of electro-magnetically driven hair clipper comprising among other parts, *front stationary teeth. 5, V f with movable teeth 6 in the cutting operation. I
which cooperate Referring no in detail to my lnvention, 1t will be seen that the same 1s preferably constructed of a very light material such as metal and is designated generally erence character 7 v The attachment as herein illustrated is in the forin of a substantially rectangular plate that may be attachedt the under side of the stationary-plate 8, which plate 8 constitutes for the stationary teeth 5.
by the ref- NT or-rice.
The plate? is so attached'to the base plate I teeth at the under side thereof by means of upwardly and inwardly curved flanges 9, extendingfor the full width of the side edges and which form inwardly opening recesses wherein'the'oppos'ite side edges of the plate 8 are received. The inner provided with a'pluextending ridges 10,
face of the plate 7 is rality of transversely each of said ridges 10 terminating at the front edge of the plate in upturned teeth 11,;the lower face of said plate being rounded transversely as at 12, and merging at its rear longitudinal edgeinto an upwardly and inwardly turned flange'18. .It will be noted then, that when the plate is, applied to the under surface of the base plate 8, the teeth 11 will extend between the teeth 5 and the rear p ortion of the plate due to its curve, 12 is disposed in spaced relation to the under face I of the plate 8 and is held firmly in position the base portion of by means of its upturned inwardly directed as not to interfere with the movable teeth 6.
It is also to be noted that my plate may be adjusted to work in cooperation with the top plate as the lower plate is adjusted backward or forward to cut the hair long or short. Thus it will be seen that even with the attachment applied, the clippers are permitted to cut the hair just as short, as without the attachment.
However, with my attachment the hair will be m picked up in a uniform gradual taper and hold the hair until the space between the teeth of the lower plate is open by movement of the movable teeth whereby the hair may be engaged between the teeth and the lower plate.
Various changes in the form, shape, size, and other minor details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as herein described, or scope 20 of the appended claims.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. The combination ofahair clipping device of the class described, of a plate of resilient material adapted to be disposed at the under surface of the base of the clipping device, said plate having attaching flanges at the opposite ends thereof for engagement with the adjacent edges of the base of said clipping device, said plate being bent longitudinally so n that the forward edge of the plate rests against the under surface of the said base, said plate merging at its opposite edge into an up Wardly and inwardly turned flange, yieldably engaging the under face of the base, said plate being further provided with transverse ribs terminating at the first mentioned edge of the plate into substantially vertically disposed teeth extending upwardly between the stationary teeth of the cutting device for engagm ing the forward edge of the base of the cutting device.
2. The combination of a hair clipping device of the class described, of a plate of substantially rectangular configuration formed of resilient material applicable to the under surface of the base of the clipping plate, said plate at opposite ends provided. with attaching flanges for engagin with the ends of the base, and said plate gradually curving upwardly toward one longitudinal edge thereof, substantially vertically disposed teeth integral with the plate at said one edge and extending upwardly therefrom for dis position between the stationary teeth of the e1; cutting device for engagement with the adjacent edge of the base, and said plate at its opposite longitudinal edge merging into an upwardly and inwardly turned flange adapted to yieldably engage the base of the cute.- ting device.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JOSEPH W. RAGAN.
