Description

Nov. 18, 1930. H. T. SAFFORD. SR 8 DEVICE FOR PREQSSING SOAP V Filed Aug. 27, 1929 gwomw HT say M J Patented Nov. 18, 1930 HENRY T. sAFroRn, sit, or an Peso; TEXAS DEVICE FOR ranssme soar Application filed Augustfii, 1929. Serial No. 388,768.
This invention relates'to pressing devices and pertains particularly to a soap press.
The primary 'ob iect of this liiventlon 1s to provide a device by means of which odd pieces of soap may be firmlypressed into a cake of sufficient size and proper form to provide a cake, thus making it possible to completely use up all of the bits of soap cakes commonly found about households.
The invention broadly contemplates the provision of a box or casing preferably of cylindrical formation and open at each end, with a cap threadably engaged over each end and having a threaded shaft extending through the centerof one of the caps and carrying a follower which is moved longitudinally in thebox by rotation of the shaft. Soap chips placedin the box will thus be pressedfirmly against the cap upon the opposite end thereof to compress the chips into a cake. Removal of the cake is effected by removing the cap against which the cake is formed and then rotating the follower slightly to force the cake from the box.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed de scription taken in connection with the accompanying, drawing forming a part of the present invention with the understanding, however,Ithat the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing; of.
the drawing but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modificatlons -mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressedin the Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates generally the casing of the soap presser embodying the present inventiomthe same being preferablyof cylindrical formation, as shown. Each end ofthe casing or box in whichthe soap cake is formed is exteriorly threaded as indicated at 2 to receive the caps '3' and 4 which close i the top and bottom ends of the box respec tively. The inner wall of the box is provided i with a plurality of longitudinally extending grooves 5 which act to prevent the soap calio from rotating while being pressed down by l the plunger or follower 6 whichsnugly fits into the box.
TlllS follower is carried uponthe inner 7 end of a threaded shaft 7 which passes through and has threadedengagement with an aperture 8 formed in the center of the top cap 3, as shown. The outer end of the shaft 7 carries the laterally extending arms 9 by means of which rotation of the shaft is facilitated, these arms bein'gfl'of substantial length sothat creation of a high pressure may firmly compress soapy:
be brought about to chips in the box.
In the'use of the present soap cake press the odd endsof soap cakes are collected and broken up into smallpieces andthen sterilized by immersion in hot water for a period of from three to five vminuteslafter which they. are placed in the box and the caps or covers secured in position. i
The shaft 7 is then rotated to soap chips, firmly against the bottom cap a. The device isthen'allowed toremain with the soap under pressure for a period of severa-l hours after which the cakewill have become set and will be found firm and ready for use upon removal. v
By providing the inner face of the wall of the'cylinder or casing 1 withjthe longitudinally extending'grooves 5 the soap cake after it is formed by the rotating follower is prevented fromturningandis also ejected straight from the cylinderafter the cap a has been removed and the follower pressed against the cake Having thus describedmy invention, what Iclaimis: i
A soap press of the character described comprising a cylindri'calcasing open at each 7 end, a cap threadably engagingover and 010s force the v i ing each end of the casing, one of said caps I having a threaded aperture through the cen:
ter thereof, a" follower designed to snugly s 1 l 3 position in the casing to reciprocate therein,
athreaded shaft attached at one end to said Ffollower. and. extending through and engagin}; in the threaded aperture, and lateral arms carried by saidshaft at its outer end to facilitate its rotation, said casing having the inner face of the Wall provided With'a series ofv longitudinally Y extending grooves extending throughout from oneend to the other; e
In testimony whereof Ihereunto affixn'ry signature.
