The apparatus of theinvention 4is particu-j larlyfadapted foruse in conjunctionwith the apparatus described in lmyco-pending applications Serial No. 276,635,iled May 10, 1928; Serial No. 319,987,71ed November 16, 1928 andrSerial No. 332,665, filed January15,1929. f Y y y In certain of these applications I have shown and describedmethods and'apparatus forproducing backpanel units in ya single drawingoperation, whereby it is possible to Y stamp out orv draw from sheet metal, such as sheet. steel, a single panel which lwhen fin-Y ished forms a convexback .portion for the automobile body as well asfo'rwardlyextend# ing top and quarter side portions joined by upper sphericalor ball corners. -Prior tol-nay inventions in the above mentioned applica-` tions this has. never to my knowledge been accomplished. Forthepurpose of illustration the method and" apparatus is here shown in connection withthe flanging 0f apreviously drawn onepiecebody panel forming the entire back of thel body asy well as quarter sides and forwardly extending top portions. yThe invention'ma'y be used, however, in conjunction 40 with the inventions in either of my above applications, Serial Nos. 276,635 and 332,665. .After the back panel of the body has been drawn to the 4form and shape described in these last mentioned applications, the panel ispree'rabIy tri1n1ned,v`usually at all four sides thereof, to remove surplus metal preparatory to the flanging, the. latter work being, shown in the presentV case. A suitable apparatus for this purpose-may comprise a basel 1() having a support V11 eX# tending rupwardly therefrom and secured thereto as by bolts`12. The outer surface of the support 11 is shaped `to receive and support a blankrPV of sheet met-al which is to be flanged and comprises a stationary portion 14 and a movable front portion 15. The
